Awesome job on that work bench! I will be moving into a house with a small single almost the exact same size as yours. I plan on stealing parts of your design. Nice work!

Awesome bench. I used the same posts for mine. I put hockey pucks under mine for feet to keep the wood off the floor. I also have a lot so snow melt in my garage from the cars so getting the feet off the ground was important.

Hah Yah. Winter comes and the only use the garage sees is garbage can and snow blower duties.

I do have some updates for the spring time, mostly winter kijiji purchases. Just started a new job last week so I've been busy with that too.

Thanks for the comments guys. Progress will continue this year for sure!

Excellent Mike, glad to hear you have some plans and updates on the horizon. Hopefully we don't have much more of this Ontario winter. Another 10cm for us today :(

Update time!

A friend was having a whole new kitchen installed recently and when I asked for the old cupboards he said sure!

Started the install yesterday:

Should have enough for that entire wall to about 6 ft from the back of the garage.

I like what you've done with the place Mike! I may have missed this, but are you planning on being able to park a car in there?

My wife and I have no immediate or long term plans to move away from this house, so I've designed everything such that a small car could still park inside when/if my son gets his own (he's 4yrs).

We're fortunate that the driveway that came with our townhouse is long enough for 2 cars (Dodge Journey and Hyundai Elantra).

The Journey would not likely fit inside the garage any more (maybe not even to begin with) but I've layed it out so that the Elantra (2007) still could.

I'm a Honda fan too, but had to get rid of my 1988 CRX Si when my wife was pregnant with our first child.

I still miss this car to this day, was a blast to drive!

Couple of new (and maybe unique things) to the garage.

#1: The always handy bottle opener!
IMG_20140506_190456_zpsfd9b3a0a.jpg

my parents got this for me for Christmas..

and #2: I stumbled across this in a Kijiji ad (similar to Craigslist). The seller wanted $60, I didnt terribly want it so I offered $20 and he accepted!

Very nice work on the bench area, shelving and cabinets. I like the neat organization you have there. I think it is nice and well arranged. Good job!

....so this little guy is a fully scaled down NewAge cabinet from their Pro Series line located here: http://www.newageproducts.com/pro-series

I bought it off a guy who worked at a Garage Organizing company and they used this as their product line demo model.

This isn't some half assed little knock off, lower scale, POS. It's the real deal too.

Complete with ball bearing sliders on the top drawer:
IMG_20140506_194045_zps0f7468d6.jpg

The two doors on the bottom swing open on their full piano style hinges after being released from the real magnetic locks to reveal a slide out tray, again on ball bearing slides. It even has a drawer liner:

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to use this little guy for, but it'll be interesting. All in all, $20 well spent on something very unique and useful I think.

The winter purchases are not done yet.. more to come later (honestly, when I finally get all the other **** off the other purchase and mounted to the wall, lol!)

today's update....another cabinet up.. this time the first double.

I tell you, watching a 4yo and 2yo while trying to wrestle a double wide up by myself is not an easy feat, but its done and now i've figured out how to get the last double up in a hurry.

I finished installing all the used cabinets I got from a friend last week.

I just have to add a strip of trim along the top to hide the unfinished portion and even to add a bit of height to allow storage on top. I've also started mounting long items like shovels and rakes below the shorter cabinets, where the tall floor standing cabinet is.

Here is the finished result:

I can now also show you the other winter deal I got.

I picked this up off Kijiji (classifieds) for $60. Its a full size cabinet (i.e. not toolbox depth), has full depth ball bearing slides/drawers and also has the liners. It is in brand new condition missing only the feet and has a small dent in the top. Considering the price and the fact that it is going under my workbench, neither are an issue for me.

Here it is:

Kinda cool that its from the same product line as the demo box I bought too!

Very good use of the space. I see you extended the water pipe under the workbench. Did you post what you did in the thread and I missed it? Did you just add an elbow and run it to the end of the bench?

I just replaced an exterior frost Bibb and 1/4 shutoff valve today since they were both leaking. Glad to be able to water the garden and wash the vehicles without having to go
Downstairs to turn the water on and off.

Very good use of the used cabinets, just wondering are you going to paint them and give them some modern door handles or leave them like this ?

I just installed the elbow and extension as you mentioned to relocate the exterior valve outside the confines of the bench legs. I used shark bite fittings (or gator or whatever they're called). I haven't opened the interior valve yet to test for leaks.

You need to test the fittings to make sure they do not leak before you forget about it and charge the extension and have water leaking all over . I had no leaks with my soldering and this was only my third or fourth time doing it.

That's a lot of cupboard space, and you certainly can't beat free these days. Good job fitting the new drawer unit under your bench too, nice looking unit for $60. Gotta love kijiji.

I've learned to live with my one car garge. A few things I'd recomend. A bench vise is a huge help. I found one at an antique store for $40. You can never have to many electric outlets. While you have the space now, I'd add several on each wall. Don't mess with a power strip. What kind of work do you do in the garge? A bench grinder is also a big help. I have three tool boxes on opposite sides of the garge which is a real pain. I built a shelf in an unused 17" x 7" space between the ac unit and wall. I have all the tools I use right there in a central loctaion, sockets, wrenches, hammers, pliers exc. It works great and is out of the way. I also have a roll away cart between the work bench and water heater that holds my air tools. Air compresser is under another work bench. Click on my ID thing on the left to see pics of the garage and some of the stuff I mentioned here. Hope it helps!

Those cabinets look familiar!

Mine:

My plan is to paint them, and see what they look like.

Got rid of the large floor standing shelf and pushed my tool box into the space. Really opened up the area in front of the workbench.
