Military Maxwell Drill Press

Picked this up. Searched the site and the web and couldn't find anything about it.

Looking for the manual.

It requires a retaining screw for the chuck which was missing when I got it. If someone knows what that screw is that would be great.

Nice score! So it's like a standard Jacobs chuck on a regular drill then? That's a good feature.

The chuck was with it when I got it. I can't be sure that it actually belonged to the press. It was more so assumed it was.

Looks like a Jacobs taper on the spindle and a Jacobs chuck--should fit right up. You should not need a set screw of any type.

Most of the time those are left hand screws.
Check it wil a tap and die set and then the screw should not be that hard to find.
Morris taper does not require a screw but some have it to prevent the chuck from releasing from the taper if you get chatter or apply side load

Yep, I think that's what the case is.

Unfortunately all my taps are 2000 miles and 6 months away from coming down here, hence the hope for a manual (besides having it).

I agee, a taper mount should not need a screw. If there is a safety screw to prevent the chuck from vibrating loose, it would not have to be left handed. Left handed chuck screws are used on reversable drills where the spindle screw is right hand and the chuck could screw off in reverse . I guess reverseable drill presses might exist, but I assume this is not one of them. If the end of the spindle is tapped for a screw, see if some common size fits the thread. I avoid using taps as thread checkers as they often remove a little metal, resulting in a loose fit. If the thread hole is full of dirt, bast it out with something like WD40 with the "straw". More stubborn calls for a clean out or chaser tap.
