Military Ratchet Set

Here's an interesting find... A set of government issue SAE ratchets. I don't believe I've ever seen them before and was wondering if any of you fellas have the goods on...

I believe they are made by Stride Tool / Imperial.

They call them "Kwiktite" wrenches.

I bought a set of those back about 1990 - 91 and they work great on flare nuts!

Mostly designed as hydraulic wrenches if I remember right.We have a set up to somewhere around 1 1/2" at the shop.As new never used,hanging on the wall for about 20 yrs I'd guess.Not something we need very often.

We use those for the piping of heavy truck air systems - generally called slap wrenches by our guys. Push to connect are getting better but we haven't gone to them 100% yet so we have lots of the compression fittings to tighten.

I've had a set of those for over 20 years that I got from Mac. I have not used them that much, but when I have, they sure work bitchen.

Back in my working days I bought a set for use at work. I worked in the oil/chemical industry on pilot plants and these are great for working on tubing.
You can just flip the mouth open, put it around the tubing and then slide it onto the nut and tighten or loosen. They're nice too because the equal pressure exerted all around the perimeter on the nut.

The handle is all on one side, I can't see how it has equal pressure on all sides of the nut. That would generally only occur with a T-handle type of wrench, like a tap wrench, something with 2 equal length arms on each side.

I have a double sided one that was built for the compression nut on a angle stop (plumbing)....works great. Had a jobsite a few years back we had to change out 12,000 angle stops. Big PITA!

Here's the set at work.Runs from 3/8" to over 2".These ones are branded Parker.

yes i think all the trucks had them. MATCO introduced them 20 years ago, i sold several sets to the guy's that worked on trash trucks. they liked them for hydraulic lines.

The wrenches pictured are used for tightening airline and hydraulic line fittings. I worked for Mack Trucks and used them when working on the air brakes.
