Picked up this old military tool cabinet a few weeks back, was wondering if anybody had any more information on cabinets made by "The Tiffin Art Metal Company?" Or possibly any other documentation and pics of similar cabinets in service?

It's got some info stenciled on the side detailing the maker, and a DSA number I'm assuming dates it to 1968? (Sorry for the poor photos it was in the middle of a thunderstorm and I forgot to take new ones ha)

Interestingly, it also has what appears to be unit info stenciled on the front. I can't make it all out but it looks like maybe:

124TH MAINT BN 2AD
B. CO ?-SUP-PLT

So the 124th Maintenance Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, B Company, ? Support/Supply? Platoon?

I'm not 100% versed in military divisions but the first part of that checks out on google at least. Plus I picked this up right near Fort Hood where the 2nd Armored Division was stationed. Always loved the 2nd's Hell on Wheels insignia so I was pretty excited when I figured out what it said.

Unfortunately the whole thing is rough enough to where it really needs a full strip down, but once I get to that point I'll most likely take good detail photos of the stencilling so I can recreate it once the cabinet is back together.

I don't know a thing about them. Looks like they were originally located in Toledo and at some point moved to Sandusky.
I'm guessing another member here might be better able to provide information on the military connection.
They apparently stamped out metal ceilings, which were all the rage at the turn of the 20th century.

Tiffin / Tiffin Metal Products, Sandusky, OH (originally Tiffan Art Metal Co., Toledo, OH) / storage systems, sheet metal fabrication / est. 1903 /

Oct. 4 1942: "A thunderous midnight explosion and roaring fire destroyed more than half of the Tiffin Art Metal Co., halted work on vital bomb casings, killed a woman employee and injured at least four others. The fire started at midnight during shift change. It spread rapidly, enveloping the entire plant in flames before firemen could bring it under control." (Sandusky Register)

That is the DSA contract number, and yes, they embedded the year of award into them.

If you Google the 11-digit FSN as a 13-digit NSN (7125-00-378-4261) I bet you will get all kinds of hits from federal supply centers.

You did just fine on your own. Probably Supply.

Nice cabinet. I like the doors and the low profile swinging drawer pulls.

Thank you sir! Was hoping you'd respond, and yep that led me to a ton of listings, which if nothing else provided me with the correct paint code (24087).

Thanks again!
