Miller 211 or Lincoln 210MP

I'm shopping for a welder to replace my old Lincoln 135mig. Originally I was planning on buying an AC Tig welder, however the death of the Lincoln MIG has delayed that plan, and I need to buy a welder that has MIG capability. I do a lot of automotive work, so it's important to own a welder I can move around to get under my various vehicles, RV, etc... Dual voltage is nice, but not a requirement.

I started looking at the Miller 211. The old model has great reviews but I haven't read much about the newer inverter model.

When shopping around, I kept encountering adds for the Lincoln 210MP. It seems similar in MIG capabilities, while having the advantage of stick welding, or even lift arc TIG if I buy a torch and pedal.

Was curious if anyone had any personal experience with either of these two machines. While I understand the Lincoln can do more, the price on these two machines right now with the various rebates is essentially identical.

I'm primarily concerned with the differences operating as a MIG, as that's where I do the majority of my welding. It's possible, but not definite, I'll still buy a dedicated TIG machine, however it will probably be next year now.

thanks,

Duncan

I have the old style 211 and love it. Never liked Lincoln wire welders, everyone I ever used was junk. The new 211 should be fine. One thing, a buddy of mine used to work for Miller in their repair center, he doesn't like inverter welders. Yes they work good and are light, but not very robust. He can't count how many three year old inverter sticker welders were junk because it was cheaper to buy new then fix. Compared to an old dialarc that will run forty years without a problem.

Miller all day long and twice on Sunday. Lincoln hasn't made a good welder since the old bullet or pipeliner.

Miller sued Lincoln for stealing patented Miller circuits.

Most of the folks I know who recently bought 211's are very happy with them. I wasn't aware of any reliability problems. I don't think the 211 invented model is 3 years old so maybe the problems are on earlier inverter models? I plan on buying one tomorrow.

IMHO the Miller 211 is the better welder. The Lincoln gives you more options. If you need to do thick rusty steel often the ability to do stick is nice.

Personally I hate scratch start TIG. But that is a preference and I admit it has its place.

I have a Miller 190 which is basically a 211 without the dual voltage capability and I love everything about it. It is the new inverter technology making it extremely light to move around my shop. I only installed 2 welder outlets when I built my shop so ease of movement was important to me. The unit performs flawlessly no matter what angle I'm welding at and is easy to setup.

Comparing apples to oranges here but if I was you it would be the 210 MP for versatility but the 211 if all I wanted was a solid MIG. I have the 210MP and I love it and I have had it for almost a year now.

I bought a 211 recently, I'm very happy with it. Welds great and the auto set is phenomenal. I also thought about both machines but the inability to tig aluminum broke the deal for me. every thing I read said the Lincoln was ok at everything but not great at anything, whereas the 211 is a great MIG.

I got an awesome deal on a Lincoln 210MP and what an awesome machine. I am by no way a professional welder but this machine makes it as easy as it can be.

I have a Miller...190... Loved it and got the older 211...and that is a sweet machine.

I would buy Miller if I ever get a bigger machine too.

I own a miller 211 and love it. The auto set is basically right on mostly all the time. I have used my buddy's Lincoln and I can't say anything bad about them. I feel it's a Chevy vs ford debate

Anyways my switch did go bad on my gun but it was a 11 dollar fix with an aftermarket eBay switch
Here's my 211 on my custom hf cart

the esab rebel and lincoln 210 mp make the mm211 look like a measily 2 knobs for babies only. This guy runs his whole pipe welding business with that little 210 mp, can you imagine this video with the millermatic 211, nope

^^^Meh I feel like there's too much to go wrong later down the road with that thing with all the functions etc. Looks like it's about 5-600 more than a 211 as well. Most people looking for a Mig just want a simple dependable machine

I agree, it's Chevy vs. Ford. Can't go wrong in this scenario.
I have experience with the 210MP and it's a joy to MIG and Arc. Pretty slick little machine.
