I am looking at a Miller syncrowave 210 tig welder for $1800. Don't know tig yet. I started putting together some equipment to try tig with a Craftsman ac/dc stick welder and a Miller HF251D high frequency box. Just wondering if this would be a better way to go and if it is a decent price. The machine looks very clean and not used a lot.

Probably the only limitations will be aluminum thickness where you have to pour in lots of heat and how long it takes for the torch (guessing air cooled here) to get uncomfortable.

But that said I think you could do all kinds of jobs in steel and I'm going to wag at 1/8" aluminum.

I have a Sync 250 and am very happy with it. I don't know the market for them and can't advise on the price but it looks like it was treated with respect and probably lightly used.

I would probably look at a used Dynasty for that price. Agree with above that you're not going to weld much more than 1/8th aluminum with 200 amps. But a torch and pre-heat (or helium) can get you a little bit more. Depends on what you want to do.

I looked at the 200 model several years ago when looking for tig welders. It is nice, but check the duty cycle at higher amps. If I remember right it was only 30% or so. Does it come with the tank too? It looks like it has filler rods, if you add filler and the tank, that’s about $200-$300 in extras depending on filler types and tank size.

No tank, but I already have an argon tank. From the serial number, it looks like about a 2015 model. I go to my ac/dc stick welder for 3/16" and above steel. I am looking at this for sheet metal, exhaust pipe and about 1/8" or thinner aluminum so I'm thinking this is about the size I need. Mainly not wanting to pay more than it's worth. I'm not up on the used value of this machine. Hoping to get time today to internet search for used prices.

The Syncrowave 210 is a great machine. Perfect for your application on lighter gauge metals. For the price I would offer $1400. New these are about $2500. Being a 2015 it will need a software update, Free From Miller, and it only requires downloading it on to a flash drive and sticking the flash drive into the USB slot on the front of the machine. I believe you can check the arc time or hours of the machine through the display.

I would pass. Look for a used Dynasty or a Syncrowave 250. This particular Syncrowave is in a weird middle spot. Not enough features as a Dynasty and not enough grunt as a Syncrowave 250. A brand new Lincoln SW TIG 200 is $1500 otd, so for sure don't pay more than that.

If you can get it for $1000- $1200 maybe.
