I am thinking about buying a Miller Diversion 180 however after reading this post I am a bit confused. https://www.drillselect.com/forum/power-and-hand-tools/metal-working/78-tig-welder Apparently there are some problems with Miller foot pedals. I can always buy an aftermarket foot pedal I have no problem with that, however If they have screwed with something simple as foot pedal I wonder what else could go wrong. Miller was once the synonym for quality but how are this new ones? Does anyone here have Diversion 180?? I am a little bit upset about this drops in quality.

first... Diversion is just that a "diversion" , too weak to weld any serious aluminium, no controls over wtf you're doing and ...a diversion, if you want to weld aluminium get a dynasty DX , miles better than the diversion.
there are also other options , euro machines ... ESAB's are fantastic machines...

I would look for a used Miller HF/HFP, I bought mine in '72, still works perfect, only thing I've ever done to it was replace one switch, because the toggle broke off moving it.

I bought a HTP inverting 221 about 2 years ago and I primarily use it to weld aluminum , and I use it almost every day without any problems. These are actually rebranded "Stel" machines which I believe are made in Italy. The price and warranty are significantly better compared to Miller. You can get them from USAweld.com. The sales lady Diana is great to deal with .

I haven't heard bad things about the Miller foot pedals. It's just that their cheapest option has a plastic shell. You've got to spend more to get the metal HD version.

That post says that their issues with the pedal were resolved after a phone call to tech support. Sounds to me like a user issue, not a pedal issue... Sometimes it pays to read the manual cover to cover.

SSC Controls makes aftermarket pedals for LOTS of TIG welder brands. Miller included.
I happen to have their pedal because it was cheaper than the Miller equivalent, and it has great reviews (and I've been very happy with it). I also use a CK torch, but have nothing bad to say about Miller's offerings.

I can't speak to the quality of a Diversion. I've got a Dynasty 200DX.

A friend of mine has a diversion and has no issues with it. Stick with Miller, Lincoln, or Esab. I would avoid the alpha tig and others like it because of the lack of a parts and service network.

Miller has a history of screwing up the little things. Head gear on their hoods is terrible. No one uses their MIG guns in a professional environment.

That said I know nothing of their foot pedals. And I still use and like Miller machines, I just sometimes wonder if they have actual welders (or weldors if you prefer) test all their stuff before they start up production.

They also do a fantastic job of burying connectors like those for spool gun on a 252 or the foot pedal connector on a Dynasty 200 deep between other stuff to where you need the un-gloved hands of a child to tighten or loosen the retaining collars.

But, again, I'm still a Miller fan-boy. Neither Miller or I am perfect it would seem.

Thank you very much for the help. Those of you who have Diversion 180 what is the thickest aluminium that you weld (with a single pass TIG weld)?
