I have an opportunity? to purchase a millermatic 200. It looks pretty roached due to sitting out under a tarp and having rats hanging out. Wires all look good, motor feed works, no tank. Just smells pretty bad. Asking $500.00.

Picture 3, the surface rust you see on the thumb screw is more than likely on every wire connection inside the machine, asking for more trouble than it is worth.

"Smells pretty bad" - how? Like insulation burning on a transformer that's overheating? That kind of "acrid" smell?? If it is, then run quickly.

I wouldn't pay over a hundred bucks for it, if that. The wire feeder won't be worth much if the power unit isn't working... If all you have to do is clean every connection & the power selection switch/wire feed speed pot, you may be okay. But the corrosion you see on the surface of mechanical parts may or may not be on the transformer windings - depends on the wiring insulation quality. If it is there, and the insulation has deteriorated, run like ____.

And welcome to the GJ from VA!

Thanks everyone for the welcome and advice. After much consternation I bundled the welder, vintage Yates American vari-speed wood lathe and a makita 2040 planer. All need attention, but my focus was the lathe and at $300 for the lot I think I did OK. Research showed the lathe to be worth $250 plus so I got the welder for $50 and they threw in the planer. My buddy is helping a widow unload some equipment her late husband allowed to fall into disrepair.

I'll keep you apprised. it'll be awhile though. Any knowledge you can impart is greatly appreciated.
