Anyone have thoughts on one of the older 211s, about 10 years
Old. Neighbor has one with a 40cf tank, wire and some other bits for $1000.
He also has a Lincoln AC 225 stick welder with some
Rods for $100.
Any thoughts on the machine, what should I look for?
I have a Hobart 140 and will need to weld 5/16 and 1/4 in steel tubing for a car rotisserie. 140 is perfect for panel repairs, portable and light.

So either I pre-heat, bevel the edges, and do a few passes or get the 211.

Other option is to put my weight lifting belt, buy the Lincoln AC 225 cheap, drag it in the garage and spend a few weekends learning how to use.

Wanted opinions.

I have an older 211 probably close to 10 years old before they went to the inverter style. It has been a good machine. It sees occasional use and has always been up to the task. I think $1000 is a little steep for a 10year old machine unless he is throwing in a spool gun. A 40cf tank is pretty small so you would probably want to upgrade that if you plan on doing any decent size welding jobs.

Not sure if you have your own bottle already, although it seems like you might since you already have a Handler 140, but you can get a brand new inverter based 211 for a few hundred more. If he’s asking $1000, that’s what I would do. Especially if you have a decent relationship with your LWS, I was able to get the inverter based 211 with the cart for under $1400 OTD.

Yeah, that’s a lot of money for a 10-year-old machine I don’t know what used ones are currently going for however for a little bit more you can get a brand new machine with a warranty

Does he own the tank or lease it?
If a Lease, he has not clue on the value.
I got an older 211, same size tank, cart, extension cord, hood, gloves and what not for $800.

Get the Buzz box and learn to stick weld. It will make you a better welder.

Seems to be the buzz box is loved by some. This one
Is AC, is that okay? One person pinged me and said to avoid AC.
He owns the tank and date is still good. I’m sure there is room for negotiation now with your input but the Lincoln has my attention.
It’s got a classic look

My 211 with cart wasn’t much over $1000 new 8-10 years ago.

Yes, And when they were clearing them out you got a free spoolgun.

They have some great deals on the New 211 inverters. Bakers supply and welders Supply are $1355.00 after Miller Rebate.
Both suppliers have additional offers with machines.
I would check local suppliers and get a package deal with a tank too.
As for the older model, I have one and a friend has one. They have been great !!
Used prices on Miller Machines are pretty high. That older 211 for $1,000.00 in good shape would be sold in a few days. That's a popular machine
Now, with Miller Rebates and $355.00 more, extra goodies, and full warranty New could be an option.

Yeah a DC is much better for arc welding.
However, a $100 buzz box can always be sold for $100. Plus you'll get learn a little...

I remember a hell of a deal on 211's, someone did a ***** purchase, and we were all guaranteed a great time, until it ended up being a scam.... I'm REALLY fortunate I had one already, it's my go to welder... but a lot of good people got burned on that fiasco. The old pre-inverter ones - yeah, worth it's weight. What a machine!!! Wouldn't give mine up for nuttin!

I It does sound a bit rich. Bottle is likely expired by now too.

I have the same 10yo MM211. I got it before I had my shop, no welder at all, and needed 120V at the beginning. Portability was a factor... I actually kept it at my buddy's place of work. If I already had a small 120V machine, I'd jump right up to a bigger 240V one.

If a stick machine appeals to you, IMHO find one that's DC capable.

He wouldn’t move on the price, bottle was 40cf and date was no good. I passed on it and the AC Lincoln, I love the look of it but don’t have the room cut also weighs as much as me. decided to go with a decent inverter DC stick welder. The 120 Hobart MIG does what I need for now.
I will keep my eye open for a new Miller when the rebates are running but honestly I don’t need it if I can figure stick welding out
