I'm packing up my apartment in Chicago so I can get back home to the UP, and this add pops up on a face book buy sell trade page for two Millermatic 250's,not working! I PM back and forth with the guy he says he got them from a fab shop going out of business sale. he was told not working and no cable or gun. I have an old truck this guy is interested in trading for.

my questions are.
1) is this a single phase machine?

2)are there any known/common problems with this machine?

3) are parts available/affordable?

4)roll the dice and see what happens?

if I send the truck to the bone yard I might get $250.00-$350.00

thanks in advance for any and all tips, advice or input!

1.) Yes
2.) It's not the best/smoothest on the lower end of the working range but...
3.) Somewhat, depends.
4.) Depends, do you have access to a mig gun to test them? What do they look like? Fire damage? Since they were stated as non working, they were probably set aside for a reason. Fixing older mig machines can become a huge time and $ sink, especially if you can't do the work yourself.

There is a good welding repair place in villa park. I had one that I was going to take in but it got sold by the owner before we did.

Finding a repair place in the UP may be a little difficult.
