Millers Falls Drill

Got an old drill the other day - kind of interested if anyone knows anything about this particular model (or where to get more info). I suspect the cord is not original, and the trigger might be missing a tab to keep it in the drill body. I found a website that details their manual drills/braces, but nothing on the electrical models. It runs well, though I haven't checked to see if the brushes need replacing. I don't have anything to date this by.

That's an oldie for sure. Try referencing it against Desoutter and CP drills too. That model looks familiar, and I seem to recall it being one of those brands. Doubt there was any latch on the trigger with that one, btw, else it was removed for good reason if there was. You really don't want one of those things latched on if the bit snags.

By 'tab' I meant to say that the trigger flops around from side to side and needs to be aligned to the slot in the handle. I suspect it may have had a bit of metal that kept it aligned (or the trigger is bent).

I also did some googling on the 414 model, seems it dates back to the late 1920's, but was made for 50 years. I'll probably have to search for advertisements - there are a few things that probably distinguish it over the years - shape of the chuck, trigger, and possibly even the overall handle shape/design.

So - is this a piece of shelf candy, or should I use it? Not too sure why I'd choose this over a newer corded drill, except for the fact that it looks awesome

I'd use it. Those things are an entirely different beast to newer drills. Try stalling that one if you can. I have an old Siemens-Schuckert of similar style and vintage, and it's a pleasure to use.

Thinking that might be the original cord, but the braided cloth overwrap is gone.

I would start here, with the 1930 catalog, then go forward or backward as things look older or newer than yours. Old tool heaven stays away from the power tools.
