my dad and I recently bought a grizzly mill/drill g1007.. we ordered a 6" swivel vise for it. the vise seems huge!! can a vise be to big for a machine? the shipping was $70 so really hate to have to send it back and be out a total of $140 plus another $70 to ship a smaller vise..thoughts?

Can't be too big for the mill unless it kills your working envelope.
It can be too big for the job in some cases

pictures would help to say for sure. too big?? have you set it up and tried to drill anything yet. if you can't find anything that you can't work on because it's too big you can always look on craigs or order a small one for those jobs.

good luck

I see that has a 9x32" table on it and Griz recommends a 6" vise so you should be ok. I would suggest that you remove the rotary base from the vise if you have one.
bolt the vise directly to the table. On the rare occasion you need the rotary re-install it. Have fun and be safe.

That 6 inch vise will weigh around 100lbs, i wouldn't want to move anything bigger than that. If that is what Grizzly says, you have the correct size i guess.

6" is the industry standard for milling vises. I'd stick with that just for the ability to use premade soft jaws, stops, parallels, yada yada.

I've had to lift a few 8" Kurt vises with a swivel base onto the mill table. Makes them lil' 6" vises look tiny.
