Just picked up a Millrite Milling Machine the other day for $500 which I thought was a pretty good deal. It has a power feed table, variable speed spindle, but no tooling. My question is I'm not sure what taper the spindle and need to buy collets. Is there a way to figure this out before I start buying collets ands seeing if they fit? I know these machines came with different spindles and the most common were R8 or a #9 brown. Thanks for the help.

I have a Millrite, it's a great home shop machine. It looks like you are missing the motor.
You are correct that they are usually R8 or #9 B&S but #2 Morse and #30 NS were also optional.
The Burke Mills Yahoo Group is the best place for info, they have manuals that you can download. The first digits of your serial # will be the year of manufacture, ie, #66-123 would be the 123 rd. machine built in 1966. DC Morrison of Covington, KY (across the river from Cincinnati) still has many Millrite parts but they are not cheap.

I have a similar mill with a 120 volt motor. nice compact mill and has been very usefull, and mine is an R8 spindle
Thanks for all the help again. I can't find the serial number for the machine. If its on a tag I guess someone removed it over the years. It does have the motor I just removed it when loading and unloading. I joined the yahoo group for future info about the machine. Uploading some pics of it with the motor. Now I just have to hook up the powerfeed table and variable speed control.

At $500, I'll call it a you ****! My Clausing was 3x, but with some tooling, no power feed. Nice home machine. Hopefully it will take R8 tooling which is plentiful, courtesy of the Bridgeports.
