I've got the 1/4 square drive m12 impact 2461 (IIRC), have had it for at least four years, great tool. Recently I noticed the reverse speed is a bit slower then the forward speed. I didnt put a tach on it, but it does sound a bit labored in reverse

A new motor is around 18$. From what I found it just involves soldering two wires. I did take the tool apart to clean it and it didnt make any notable difference. I was going to replacle the unit but didnt see one on sale. I figure for the parts cost vs. new (99$) it'd be worth it to try and fix if the problem is the motor, the circut board was around 50$. It is well out of warranty.

Thoughts?

It's worth a shot. I assume you checked the brushes too. I may be interested in buying it if you decide to get a new impact or if the repair doesn't work.

Does it have brushes? Have you checked them?

My m18 1/4in impact is on its 3rd set of brushes in 8 yrs. There $14 shipped and take 6 screws to put in.

The motor look to be a sealed/non-serviceable unit in regards to checking the brushes. I'll see about trying to replace the motor, doesnt look like too much trouble.
