Looking to purchase a 12v Fuel Hackzall and curious what current owners have used for blades? HD only lists the short 3 1/2 & 4 inch varieties but would need something more like 6" or even longer for some projects. Are the Hackzall blades proprietary or are there generics that will fit? This will be my first of many tools using the same battery platform so I want to make sure that I'm starting off on the right foot. This will be for general home use and not used daily. Main reason for selecting this one is the ability to easily use it one handed.

"Accepts both HACKZALL™ and SAWZALL® style blades (See related products for listing of HACKZALL™ blades)"

Meaning, any and all reciprocating saw blades will work in it. Go to town :) i prefer the diablo blades myself.

All reciprocating saw blades will work. I have used everything from 4" hackzall to 12" tree pruning blades in mine.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
The reason the Hackzall blades are shorter and thinner is so the blade will take less force to cut, longer blades i.e. If more teeth are engaged in the cut will take more force, same as wider teeth I.e. Wider kerf will require more force to move the blade through the material being cut. Hence at some point a stronger saw like a Sawzall should be considered d.

I use every size blade from just about every manufacturer.

The DeWalt blades can be thick with paint, so you may need a quick rub with sandpaper.

In my experience, the longer blades will definitely eat the battery faster, so a 4.0 is nice if you have one.
