I just discovered that milwaukee makes a circular saw designed to cut metal, but there's not a whole lot of good information on it. What are the realistic limitations of this saw? Can it cut say 2x3 ft sections of 1/4 mild steel with ease? How long do the blades generally last? Is it a sufficient alternative to a plasma cutter? I'd love to hear some real world experiences with this saw.

Kicks *** for lighter stuff. I've cut maybe 24" of 3/16 plate at a time. I would buy another in a heartbeat if something happened to mine.

Shines in sheet metal, angle iron, small tubing, rod, etc. It'll do 1/4" plate, but you can tell it's working for it. Not killing it, but definitely using battery.

I have the corded 8" Milwaukee metal saw (older USA one) that does up to 1" plate.

If you're doing thicker plate with any saw, rub some Hougen Slick Stik (or similar) on your cut line.

I can't speak specifically about that saw but I can contest to the serious badassesness of the 6370. I've had that saw for several years and no complaints. As for 1/4 I haven't cut much, but 1/8" I've sliced a diced several hundred feet of cut.

And yes it's a viable alternative to plasma. Pick the right blade and cut accordingly and you can have an edge comparable to a sheared cut.

That is my new favorite tool. It is very handy for sheet work. I cut 1/4" and 3/8" metal all the time with it...very handy and great tool.

Chop saw, band saw and that hand saw...you are good to go for most fab work...

Yes, I have this saw, it is an awesome tool. The blades are pricey, but you can make them last if you use it correctly. As for the capacity, I've cut 1/2" plate with mine(24" cut). It cuts extremely precise, and if you clamp on a straight edge it will give you a clean burr free cut. Top it all off it barely makes a spark/heats the metal. It could probably cut thicker than 1/2" even, but you really have to take it slow. I cut 1/4" and 3/8" mild with it all the time. I use it over a plasma cutter everytime as long I'm only doing straight cuts. I cannot speak highly enough of this saw. None of my coworkers believed it until I showed them.
It rips through thinner stuff with ease.

I'm a little surprised you guys have cut 3/8 and 1/2 with it. I never did because I just always grabbed the 8" for that stuff...not to mention the larger motor, blade, and horsepower definitely cuts faster. Maybe I should ask a little more of the little guy.

I had the non fuel at first and 3/8" was really the limit for that saw, I still loved it and upgraded. If I had the bigger one I'd probably use it for larger stuff, I just love not dealing with the cord and it's handled everything I've thrown at it. Also it's not every day I work with much bigger than 1/2" stuff. 3/8" and smaller 95% of the time.

I made the same purchase yesterday but I had to add 6% so Iowa could get their share. Still saved $30.
