I have a 2804, don't like the chuck. It has runout and don't like the lack of grab and strange action it has when you try to lock it down. Decided to remove and get it ready for a Rohn replacement.

Got the lock screw out but cannot get the chuck itself to screw off.

Have a big allen key in there and beat it a few times with a steel hammer. It's stuck. I am trying to take it off turning counter clockwise, is that correct?

I used a little mini torch to go down it's throat and warm it up a bit if it had locktite on it.

Will not budge. I am thinking I might have to send it to milwaukee. Any suggestions?

Most of the time you can use an impact driver and a hex socket

That worked great for the screw. My issue was actually getting the chuck off. Which should have been easy.

But I did get it off last night. I used a piece of PVC pipe on the allen key and a vice.

The best method i know is to chuck up the hex key and clamp the drill in a vise so that the hex key presses against a solid edge. Put the drill in reverse and bump the trigger. The power of the motor will spin the chuck right off. I had no luck trying to pound on the hex manually, the gearbox would just spin every time.
Ps - try not to break the chuck screw off in the gearbox body like I did... I don't know what kind of threadlocker makita uses but that sucker was not coming out. I drilled and tried running a tap into it to break it loose (since it's reverse threaded) and promptly broke it too. Ended up replacing the whole gearbox and that stupid $7 screw to get back up and running.
