Milwaukee 3/4 inch Masonry Hammer Bit

Is this a good drill bit to drill 8 holes in my concrete floor? Need to secure a 4-post lift. Just want to get something locally and not order it from Amazon.

Drilling 3/4 x 4" holes in concrete with a hammer drill will ****. Rent (or, heck, it's garage journal, buy) an SDS drill and the correct bit. It would take less time for me to drive to HD, rent the drill, drill 8 holes, and return it than it would to drill them with a regular hammer drill.

Yes but if you're planning on using a regular drill with a hammer function instead of a SDS type drill, you have your work cut out for you. At a minimum, rent a SDS.

Damn I was thinking that too but I didn't want to post it first. I'm not an expert at drilling in concrete but I'd sure go to SDS or my rota hammer before a hammer drill for something that big and deep.

Yeah, 3/4” holes are no joke. You can do it with the smaller SDS rotary hammers but if you’re renting I’d go SDS max. The last 12 holes I drilled (out of a gazillion) were 3/4” setting my lift and the Bosch bulldog I used was pretty tired by the time we were done. Count on hitting some rebar along the way too

I rented an SDS Max from Home Depot. They also provided a 3/4 inch bit with the rental. It took less than 2 minutes per hole to drill.

Thanks for the good advice @housewolf , @RTM , @sparky 1971 and @dscheidt . It took longer to pound in the inserts and torque the bolts than it did to drill the holes.

That's good. If you hadn't rented and stayed with the original plan of using a hammer drill, you'd still be drilling and may have burned up the drill.

I was going to use a Craftsman hammer drill that I have had for about 20 years. It has worked well for drilling small holes (less than 1/2 inches diameter) in brick and masonry. I have never attempted a 3/4 inch hole with it.

I bought a HF sds max with their set of bits. Have only used the 1/2 bit so far but goes through concrete like butter. Not sure on rebar.
