Milwaukee 3/8 impact: socket retention

I pulled out my 3/8 fuel impact yesterday for some work and noticed the sockets wouldn't stay on the gun. I mean if you turned the gun with the socket facing the ground it would fall off. These where craftsman 12 point non impact sockets so I went to and impact socket(tekton)and the socket retention was better but still not great. Is this normal? I haven't used this gun but one other time since I've had it. Have just about wore the 1/2 model out and it has never given me this problem with any sockets/ extensions.

Take a close look at the hog ring on the end of the anvil square drive. It might be gone, squished together, or have something else wrong with it. You'll have to play with it expanding it slightly to get it to hold you impact sockets better.
Chrome sockets usually screw up the hog ring. Good luck.

I looked at that at first the ring is still there and in place didn't really notice it bent or smashed but will take a closer look now. Thanks
