Milwaukee battery interchangeability?

Would anyone on here be willing to give me a crash course on battery interchangeability for Milwaukee tools?

There is a company local to me that sells refurb Milwaukee bare tools at about a 50% discount. If the tools are less than 5 years old, they honor the warranty. Anything older than 5 years doesnt have a warranty.

I've been kicking around the idea of picking up a variety of M18 tools and buying a set of new batteries. I just want to make sure that all tools can use interchangeable batteries.

Correct me if im wrong, but all M18 tools should be compable with any/all M18 series batteries correct? (ex: M18 vs M18 fuel, etc).

Yes correct. We have a bunch of brushed and fuel m18. All batteries all sizes work with all tools. Only thing i think the older chargers dont work with all newer batteries. Like the chargers from pre 5ah batteries dont work with the 5ah batteries. Or the charger could be broken. Ill check in a bit.

The charger in question seems to be working on the xc 4.0 batteries. Maybe the battery i tried was too discharged. Cant find any 5.0 atm.

Any new M18 battery (Redlithium and newer) will work in any M18 tool (from any time).
The only catch is that some tools (the 1/2" Fuel drill comes to mind), may have more power when running on an XC pack (the double stack of cells) as opposed to a single stack pack.
