Milwaukee Brushless Compact vs. Standard-sized Drill & Driver

What's the difference between the Compact and Standard versions of Milwaukee's Brushless 1/2" Drill and Impact Driver?

Unfortunately, this past Memorial Day Weekend did not churn out any decent deals on the non-compact version. Hopefully, something good will come out this coming Father's Day.

Trying to justify the $100 difference between both versions as well.

Brusheless will not have the friction and gradual power loss (typically) that is experienced by the brushed motors. In simplest thought process it is more of a direct drive to the battery and will commonly be referred to as a more direct draw from the battery. Some say it is even more of a power on demand using only what is needed given the resistance the tool needs to overcome. My selling point was the consistent performance from beginning to end of the battery charge. There are several articles comparing the two kits as well as brushed vs brushless being the new hype and the approach in which many of the big brands are targeting due to its consistent performance capabilities and extended tool life (look at brushes like a clutch in a car)

Both sets will serve you well, there are also multiple generations of the Milwaukee fuel brushless line you may be able to score for even less if you shop around which deliver even more power. Dewalt also has their own brushless line combo that's been at a low price even through Home Depot going on several weeks here ($199)

I thought they were both Brushless,
there is Compact Brushless Fuel M18 and Fuel M18-only. I don't know if Home Depot's description is wrong

From it appears, one is fuel and the other is non-fuel (but both are brushless). Is this a marketing ploy, or is there a true difference? They both appear to be hammer drills, being 1/2" drives.

I want to stick to the Milwaukee Brand (although not Made in the USA, it is the most versatile brand out there from what it seems). Dewalt's collection of power tools doesn't appear as vast.

Both of those models are brushless 1 is the fuel line the other is the compact m18 line
Fuel is slightly more powerful and I believe the compact uses a more generic based brushless motor (similar to the ridgid brushless tools since both are made by TTI). Where the fuel uses the heavy duty power state motor. Either is a good score. I've personally paid the extra 100 only because the compact brushless was brand new at the time and the "powerstate" brushless motor the fuel line uses was tried and tested plus being in the trades I wanted the power benefits

You can even go with the previous generation fuel and split the cost difference

You do get a free fan with the compact kit. If I recall they are slightly smaller and lighter. Fuel line was targeted for trade workers definitely overkill for the weekend warrior but with the new brushless technology in either set you can't really go wrong. Plus that fuel kit you listed comes with the hammer drill where the compact does not
