I've got an older Milwaukee abrasive chop saw that is probably 15 years old that has quite working..not sure but I think the motor may be toast. I have already replaced it with a new saw, but just can bring myself to throw out the old saw. Any suggestions? thanks.

If the bearings are worn, it's toast. On the other hand, mine started running erratically and then quit. I found out the brushes were worn out and it's now working as good as always.

I would also check the bearings and switch, I have gotten so many tools from people that just needed one or the other, most of the time less than $10 to make the tools functional again.

If its the 6176 they're beasts, I'd fix it. Not terribly accurate but hard to kill.

Milwaukee did a switch update on these so be certain it's not the switch.

And finally if you do get rid of it please PM me, I'd like the base if the vise still slides and clamps smoothly.

That sounds familiar, that was my failure too IIRC. If you order a new switch it comes with some other little stuff (screws, crimp connectors - don't totally remember) and instructions on how to fit the new style switch
