So was at electrical wholesale house checking on order and needed a aggressive bit and bought a Milwaukee drill bit, small inch and a eight. Yikes, what a wood chipper, low speed high speed no difference. Not sure what to do with it? Just a heads up. It's splitting out 2x6x14" blocking even when drilling in the center. No thanks.

Roger that , just a regular wood self feeding bit, whole purpose in life, drill holes and fast. Seen a lot of electrician`s drilling good + - holes and this bit is a butcher. Might as well be using the fire wood screw splitter.

I'm guessing the ships auger type bit is what you're talking about, but not sure why you are splitting your blocking. I've used those bits before and generally you just let it eat with all the rpm you got and hopefully enough handle in case it catches.

Sorry, 6" ship anger bit #43-13-0873, anger for sure. Ignorance on my part, went with counter guy's suggestion and then had to go to stand by box store and purchased Irwins. My bad.

When drilling with the auger bits, I like to have a bit of backing wood on the outlet end, prevents nasty blowouts. I try not to go full speed with any of those self feeding bits unless hand powered, they cut way too fast for my liking. (Call me cowardly, its not my day job.)

Maybe your bit is dull*, or damaged? Check that the side flutes are ahead of the cutting edge, and sharp and parallel to the direction you are drilling? At slow speed it should pull up nice curlies of wood.. By hand they are a joy to watch. The high speed may destroy the curlies, but might be worth testing in a scrap or two.

* someone used it, FU, and returned it for credit?

It's a crude bit for crude work, and if you run it at any kind of a angle the wings won't cut the outside first resulting in blow outs.

Plus Milwaukee ain't know for quality bits other then the USA steppers
