Im not sure if its some sort of overload protection, but it seems that if you really try and hammer or something the thing just does nothing sometimes. I noticed a similar thing after using my non fuel cordless hammer drill as well. Was going at my headlights using it as a buffer with one of those kits and it to shut down for a second till I released the trigger and hit it again.

Did you notice if the battery lights were flashing?

I didnt notice the lights were flashing. But this only happened maybe 3x so far. Im thinking you are correct, its protection for the batteries/tool. Wish I had thought to look online for a manual, I cant even find the paper one that came with the tools.

I believe Milwaukee is the only one has that protection feature on their tools. From what you say, it does sound like that feature is at work there.

I've used my fuel hammer drill to refinish headlights before, and I didn't have this happen. The overload, from my experience, kicks in when you have something limiting the rotation to the point of damage. Like, seeing if you can hold the chuck back when only applying 1/4 or 1/2 power with the switch. My non fuel m12 will do the same.

All of our cordless tools have overload protection. If the tool senses it is being overworked or gets too hot, it will shut itself down. The tools can be restarted by releasing and then depressing the trigger again. if you feel the tool may be shutting down too early see below for repair options
So yea, they do have overload protection it seems. Im gonna see how it goes, perhaps I asked too much of the compact m18 drill. The 3/8 fuel impact I cant recall but I think I might have had a low battery.

Our Milwaukee impacts at work will shut off when they are worked hard. I suppose the batteries are protecting themselves. We just killed our first one today, less than a year into using them. Hopefully the warranty claim won't be a hassle. They do tend to snap off the adapters pretty regularly.
