Milwaukee fuel confusion

i am considering buying one of those cordless 1/4" hex impact wrenches.

the milwaukee gets great reviews, but there are several different versions, and there appears to be no clear favorite.

i am looking at a 2750. this lists itself as brushless right there on the case, but sometimes i see references to other models being brushless, but there is no clear indication which have what features.

but i have questions. what is the difference between regular m18 batteries, and red lithium batteries? are the m18's all lithium. can regular m18's be used with the above model?

is there another model that would be a more reasonable place for me to dive into the milwaukee ecosystem?

The 2750 is a brushless version with no additional settings. The 2753 is the FUEL (brushless) version with 4 settings.

The red lithium batteries are the newer versions as there are the 18v NiCad batteries and V18 lithium batteries as well.

The 2750 uses the red lithium battery.

by uses, do you mean requires? since it is nearby in the numbering scheme, i assume that the 2753 requires the red batteries also?

if newer tools require the red batteries, is there some clue somewhere that they are newer tools, and require the newer batteries? can older tools use the newer red batteries?

from your post, FUEL refers to the brushless tech, rather than the batteries (which, if true, is likely the source of some of my confusion. i would have assumed that the FUEL moniker would apply to the batteries, or at least the battery system, rather than the motors), so any FUEL tools are all the latest brushless tech?

Correct FUEL means brushless and top of the line. They make a cheaper brushless version that they sell at the Home Depot. The M18 batteries are what it requires. Any version will work. The term Red Lithium is a Marketing term Milwaukee invented with the stated claim being that they work better in cold weather. Living in Phoenix I don't worry much about that. The older NiCd and Nickel Metal Hydride batteries will not fit the Li-Ion tools.

Three main lines at Milwaukee:

Top: FUEL, like "brushless +" (brushless with better motor and electronics/on-board control)
Mid: Brushless
Bottom: Brushed

Applies to both M18 and M12 lines. Batteries are all the same, M18 for M18 tools and the same for M12.
