I had a question about this tool. I purchased it new and had already opened it beforehand. Didnt see anything in the manual but i left it in the case inside my pickup truck in hot weather. I pull it out of the case tap on the trigger and the drill locks up and throws a tiny little cloud of smoke. I proceed to press on the trigger again and the the led just keeps flashing and the drill doesnt do anything. I let it sit for a few mins come back to it and everything is working again. It is still working a week later but im still a little worried. Has anyone experienced this or know what it means? I know it has circuits inside to protect it from overloading. The only video I can find is from tools in action demonstrating overload protection but the drill just jams and doesnt blink. By the way im not bashing milwaukee, I own most of their hand tools which are great and have a few power tools. I purchased these to upgrade from my brushed m18 set. There is nothing wrong with my brushed set but i bought the combo with compact batteries. It is great for a thing here and there work but when it comes down to building a project or something in that nature the compact batteries die down kind of quickly. I figured why buy new batteries when i can upgrade my batteries and get a brushless set for not much more.

If you are using a brushed version (non-fuel), then many times when you initially start using the tool new it will smoke/smell since the brushes are wearing in & the coatings on the electronic components inside can heat up and "cook off" excess materials on them.

If you continue to have an issue, call up Milwaukee & they will provide you with a pre-paid FEDEX shipping label, and once it gets to their facility they have a 5-day or less turnaround time.

I believe all Milwaukee power tools have a 5 year warranty & the batteries have either a 2 or 3 year warranty (depending on which one).

They pay shipping both ways.....it wont cost you a dime.

x2 woodstock, 5 year warranty sounds like it has not expired yet so i'd give it a shot.

You may want to review the Battery Pack Protection section of the operator's manual, the items you describe are addressed on page 5.

GTO thats what i was initially leaning towards

Woodstock, i know that familiar smell when breaking in new brushed tools. Unfortunatley this a brushless fuel hammerdrill.

1911, I reviewed the pdf, it seems inline with the overheating battery. Just to be clear i said the led worklight on the drill was flashing. I cant recall if the battery pack was flashing as well. It just might have... The pdf says the lights will blink but only on the charger and pack itself.

I dont know if i want to turn it in for warranty yet. But i sure dont want to leave it in my truck again to find out.
