Milwaukee Heated Jackets

Hey Guys, I'm looking at getting a Milwaukee heated jacket (coming into winter here) hoping you can help me figure out something, I'm looking at a black one since I'll be wearing it at work I figure itll show the dirt less.

There appears to be 2 kinds on the market ones that have, which were updated last year, does anyone know what exactly they changed? The model I'm looking at is a 2344 but not sure if this is the newest one or if it changed. Also outside of the US they appear to have different model numbers, if I buy locally the model number is C12HJ but I have no idea if this is the latest version, how to tell and how these numbers convert to the US part numbers. I would like to get the newest one if they made some decent improvements.

Any ideas by people that own them or otherwise?

The new models have a USB cord routed for charging your phone or flashlight ect

The newer ones also have additional zones of heat.

My Milwaukee rep told me that they are not selling the newer style anymore (at least until the fall next year). Its getting hard trying to find a XXL. XL can be found in the newer style on clearance at HD.

Only thing I hated about my jacket was the zones are not on the lower back. When my lower back tightens up, I get cranky as hell!

In the USA there was only one generation of the black jackets, two of the red. There is an original-style version of the black jacket in Canada and possibly other areas.

2344 is latest generation, C12HJ is not.

Edit: Sounds like you want M12HJBLACK-0 for just the jacket -21 for the kit. But be careful. I checked an Australian website and it shows the older style of jacket for this SKU, while the UK one shows the new style. http://www.milwaukeetool.co.uk/tools/cordless/12v/tools/m12-hj-black/

In the USA there was only one generation of the black jackets, two of the red. There is an original-style version of the black jacket in Canada and possibly other areas.

I remember reading somewhere that an M12 battery lasts for 2 hours on high, 4 hours on medium, 6 hours on low. I can't find the source, but it sounds reasonable enough.

If you have M18 tools, you can always buy a power pack to be able to use M18 batteries with the jacket (http://toolguyd.com/blackout-mvp-milwaukee-m18-power-source/).

I think the compact M18 battery would be okay, the high capacity one would be pushing it, in terms of comfort.

And don't forget that Milwaukee came out with 2.0Ah and 4.0Ah m12 batteries. The 4.0Ah (XC) battery might be awkwardly shaped in-pocket, but the 2.0Ah is the same size as the regular 1.5Ah one.

Alright sounds good, I have quite a few 1.5ah batteries and one 3.0ah battery, might have to pick up a 2.0ah battery too. Now to find someone who actually has these jackets in stock in black.

For what its worth any Milwaukee dealer can get the jackets as well. If you have any small hardware stores that have Milwaukee tools they can probably get one for you.

Every online one I can find says they are out of stock. I'm after 2344-M if you know of one.

So I finally got one of these, I have a problem with the battery holder not charging through the usb port though, heats the jacket perfectly. I've played with it for about 30 minutes but won't do anything, tried different cables, fresh battery but doesn't want to know. Maybe its because my Galaxy S4 requires more power?

Any ideas?

If you're a heavy set tradesman they run true to size (this is how Milwaukee sized them). I wear a Large which is what I would normally wear, but only to get the right sleeve length. The rest of the jacket has way too much space around my body; good for extra layers underneath but then the heating is basically useless, which leads me to:

consider a heated hoodie. I wear Medium, can put a jacket over it if really cold. Love it.

That's a common problem. Someone here explained it but I can't find the thread. Basically the new phones start out trying to gobble as much power as they can and then kick down their power requirements. The initial demand is too much for these 12V power ports. This is way dumb-downed in laymen's speak.

Depending where I shop/style of shirt, I am either an XL or XXL. I got the XL heated hoodie, the sleeves are fine (usually too short on XL or too long XXL) and the mid section is roomy enough. I need a roomy mid section anyway but the XL is not too small for me.

It is not quite big enough to say it is 'a size big' but it is a large XL. 2 hrs on high might be a bit of a stretch but it's somewhere between 1-2 hrs never timed it exactly.

Anybody know if there are any red large hoodies in stock anywhere? I'll buy just the jacket or the kit if I can find it for under $200. Amazon is coming up with results around $300 for the stuff I find in stock.

The new 3 in one jacket looks nice, but I just found out today that you can upgrade the Milwaukee jackets to M18 for longer heating.

I had no clue they have been out. Dewalt offers their jackets as a 12/20 volt. Why does Milwaukee label theirs as 12 volt?

Thanks for the link to the M18 conversion vid. There is also another Workshop Addict vid (12 minutes long) that goes through the 3 in 1. Crazy, but there actually are a number of things to think about when using a heated jacket.

The 3 in 1 looks to be a more serious cold weather weapon than anything I have seen to date. I've had the older jacket for a few years and I really like it but I have not been using it to my best advantage.

With the 3 in 1 you get a close fitting vest, which seems to me to be the most important part of the jacket and maybe they should just sell that separately. Anyway, this jacket is geared toward hunters, but you could use the vest under any jacket which is pretty nice. The key is wearing just a very thin layer under the vest so you are not blocking the heat. Then you can layer whatever you want on top.

Another thing I learned from the video is how the battery pocket expands, I was stuffing a 4.0 12V battery in without fully expanding the pocket, doh!

Even just using a 4.0 12V battery extends the run time on the jacket very substantially, like from around 2hrs to well over 4 hrs depending on the setting. Using 18V batteries will give you even more time, but they will be a bit heavier so that will take some getting used to.

I guess like any new tool there is a bit of a learning curve with heated jackets, but overall I am liking these things more and more. Anything that helps you stay warm around here is a good thing!

No, it's just a little odd.
It's a long double-ended zipper. If you continue to unzip the pocket (when it appears to already be open, you unzip the extension. Then keep "unzipping", and you cna zip the extension closed.

I see some places on eBay blowing these out at $199 for the jacket, charger, battery, seems like a good deal, these jackets have any issues to speak off or they reliable ??

$199 is basically retail. I had a first gen jacket warm up and then shut down. They warrantied it. The warm up feature has been eliminated on subsequent models anyway.
