I might be stuck with buying a 2653 1/4 hex driver, I was wondering if anyone has tried or knows if you can change the anvil to a 3/8 hog ring anvil?

I don't see why you would buy a 1/4 hex impact driver and try to convert it. Wouldn't it be easier to buy a 3/8 impact?

I've heard people here say it can be done, but I don't recall any write-ups, pics, and I can't find the thread where someone said it was possible.

You're getting the same functionality. Changing the anvil means changing the whole front end, which I would assume is at least as expensive as just buying the bare tool version of what you really need.
I wouldn't use a normal hex/square adapter in an impact, but the Milwaukee ones are impact rated.
15$ for the gear case and 12$ for the 3/8 anvil, almost 200$ for the bare tool

There's a lot more than just those two parts that's different in the two diagrams.
Also, if you convert a 1/4" hex driver to 3/8", I'd bet the farm you're tool is no longer covered by the warranty.

The responses you're getting are not what you wanted to hear because, well, what you wanted to hear doesn't seem to make any sense.
If you are ordering the tool online, the cost for converting a tool is about the same. If you're buying the tool in a store that only has the hex, odds are pretty good they can order the one you actually need.

It's the oil, destroying this country...

I have 1/4 hex....I don't want it, I don't want to sell it or turn it into anything else I don't want, what I do want is a 3/8 impact
Can I convert it?......without sticking an F'ing adaptor on the end of it...

You're only getting 140ft/lb vs 200ft/lb as well.
Yep. The 1/4" hex shank is thin enough that it acts like a torque stick, and prevents you from getting the full power out of a 3/8" socket with an adapter.
I'm not terribly affected by that small loss of power (I'll just move up to a 1/2" impact if I need it), but I can see how it would bother some.
Now if they offered a hex/square combo end like Bosch makes, that would be awesome.

You can paint your car whatever color you like.
But if you make a thread that says "I'm at Pizza Pizza and I want a cheese pizza, can I make a cheese pizza by picking the pepperonis off of a pepperoni pizza? " don't get pissy when most of the responses say "uh... dude... just order a cheese pizza".

I know, I've been in your shoes many times. You simply ask for facts or tech and you just get opinions or obvious alternatives. People think they're being helpful, but they're just wasting bandwidth.
If you haven't already done so, you'll have to give up here and just strike out on your own. Order the parts, hope it works, and then you can post back w a nice tech write-up that might be helpful to the next person who has this question.

Yes, it can be done! all you need is the $12 anvil
I did mine a long time ago, and don't have a write up for you, but all you have to do is to take the snap ring of from the sleeve on the 1/4 hex, then the 4 screws that holds the front casing and the rest is pretty self explanatory

You'd be better off "probably" with buying a 3/8" impact wrench and then getting the 3/8 square to 1/4 hex shockwave adapter. Or just do like most of us, and buy both tools.
