Milwaukee M12 fuel hex driver - clutch issue?

Hello all. My brand-new M12 Fuel hex driver 2402-20 seems to have a minor clutch issue.

When in screwdriving mode and switching directions, the clutch engages for a sec while spinning, clacks after 1 second for a split second with the chuck stopping, and re-engages. This only happens right after switching directions, and only once per direction change. It will clack sooner if I put a torque on the bit. Gear is solidly selected in 2. It seems there is some mechanical play going on.

Is this normal for M12 Fuel clutches? The regular M12 Fuel Drill and Hex driver use the same base platform, just different chucks. Anyone experience this before? No one else on Earth seems to have this problem with theirs, I'm just lucky.

Ok... I literally just got the 2402 and used it on one job... dozen fence slats reinstalled with small head stainless screws... I had no issues that match your issue...

However...

I have a 20v dewalt impact driver that does that... the next fastener ... it starts hammering ONCE then goes in normal and hammers the end. Next use again... that one "clearing" bang before it runs in normal. No load trigger sometimes clears it.

Back to the 2402... I will keep an eye on it tomorrow and update with an additional post if I find anything... assembling a shelving unit.

I like the 2402 because it's NOT an impact and has a wide selection of clutch settings...

Is it possible you aren't engaging all the way and are slightly out of gear. That's the one issue I have with my M 12. The fit of my hand sometimes catches the switch and pushes it slightly out of battery so to speak. Just a thought here though before you return it Make sure she's all the way across, it may be as simple as that.

Update, I ran some more testing and the clutch locked up completely and overloaded the motor, just turning itself. Also some grinding noises. There's definitely a problem. Disappointing this passed QC. Time to test Milwaukee's warranty.
