Are rotary 1/8" tool collets interchangeable ? Milwaukee brand are about $10, while you can buy aftermarket (Temo) Dremel 480 collets 5 for $7 on Amazon !

Yup, MW collets have always been expensive! I wanted to get the 1/8" collet for the M12 die grinder but I ain't paying no $20 for that tiny little collet. ER-40 & ER-16 collets I use with my mill are cheaper! I have a 1/4" to 1/8" sleeve adapter so I'll just use that if I ever need.

The M12 rotary tool collets sure do look the same as Dremel collets. I don't have the M12 rotary tool so I can't check to see if they'll fit. But for every Dremel I've had I always use the quick chucks. Maybe they'll fit the M12 rotary tool?

So unless I'm missing something the milwaukee collet is 3 bucks more then the dremel collet? I'm cheap but for 3 bucks I would order the milwaukee and know I have the collet meant for that tool. It's a one time purchase, I could see price shopping if I needed 20 of them. But 3 bucks for a one time purchase and saying ouch?

Guess I missed the 5 part. I'd still just order the right one and be done. Is there a reason you need 5? I've got a lot of routers and rotary tools and don't remember needing collets very often.

I just bought a set of 4 different sized collets for my dremel for $7. Each collet fits a different sized shaft, thus you need several.

How broke are you? A damn ProV1 golfball cost $7 and I use to lose or tear up, with the grooves on my irons, two of them a round.

Reminds me of the customer that made me drive 5 miles to a gas station to get exact change on a $500 and some delivery of firewood.
I'm talking like .50 change.
Only time in 10 years I had to give change.

I gave her a dollar and she threw a fit over that too. Tried explaining that wasting 20+ mins was costing me WAY more than $1.

The Dremel stuff works on the M12 rotary tool.

I don't know on the collets but the Dremel brand chuck like darkzero pictured does work on the M12 rotary tool. I have one on mine and have no idea where the collets are

I also replaced the collet of my M12 rotary tool with the dremel branded chuck. The oem collet really was pretty flimsy.

Can confirm, the Dremel quick chuck fits and is, in my opinion, a necessary upgrade on the M12. I'm very happy with it on mine, and it seems well balanced.
