went to home depot this afternoon for black friday, bought the M12 combo kit with the drill and the 1/4 hex impact driver. I received 2 batteries with it along with an extended life battery. I put one of the batteries in the impact and was just pulling the trigger, just testing it out, same with the drill. I then noticed on the manual for the batteries it says you must fully charge a new battery before first use. Could I have possibly affected the batteries life by just testing it out before charging it fully? the "fuel gauge" was 2 out of 4 bars when i put it on the impact. Sorry if this is a stupid question, this is my first venture into the cordless/battery powered line of tools.

No, you did not hurt them at all. Every M12 & M18 battery that I have ever gotten only comes half charged....sometimes I will run them down all the way before I slap them on the charger. You'll be fine.

Lithium ion batteries are best stored at about 60% charge I think.... Won't hurt them to test them out before fully charging but it's best to go ahead and charge them before using them hard.
