Agree here if we're talking about the Fuel lineup. M12 can do about everything that original 18v series tools could do just in smaller doses. DIY folks aren't out building decks all day everyday, so no need for the M18 stuff when the smaller size of M12 is more beneficial.

This is the BEST all-around impact that Milwaukee makes in my opinion. If you can only buy one, or are looking for a place to start....I would start with the 2654.

The batteries alone cost more than you are paying for the tool, 2 batteries, a charger, and a case!

The 3 power setting are great! 30, 75, & 200 ft-lbs....it busts off lugnuts NO PROBLEM!

Watch out there are 2 m18 fuel 1/2" impacts. One is basically the 3/8" with a 1/2" head that makes a little over 200 ft/lbs and the other is the 1100 ft/lb one

Not all of us have air tools and not all M18 tools are overkill for DIY IMO. One of the other M18 tools I plan to get is their 6.5" cordless circular saw. Something very handy for DIY'ers and Pro's alike and is not available in the M12 line (wouldn't be a good idea even if it was)

I agree the M12 line is more appropriate for some tasks/tools such as an impact driver. I already have an M12 drill that I use all the time and love the power/weight/size ratio but some tools make more sense in M18 size, even for DIY'ers. I love that these kits come with a dual charger for both M12 and M18 tools. Makes it more convenient for those of use who don't want to stick with one line or the other.

Just my opinion anyway.

I'm pretty sure what that means is you can't buy a $250 gift card and get $50 off.

The offers on specific products or brands are usually manufacturer supported, i.e. Milwaukee pays the $75, so you're not actually double dipping.

There is the "high torque" 18v that has ~700ft-lb with 1100ft-lb breakaway torque and then there is the other 18v with 210ft-lb that is roughly the same size as the 1/4" hex impact driver.

I think the 1/2" drill/hammer + 1/4" HEX impact is the best combo for a DIYer.

The drill with hammer offers all the versatility you need for a drill, and the 1/4" hex impact is awesome for most screwing and wrenching needs. 1/4" hex is what most phillips head tips and other common tips use.

Unless you need a dedicated socket gun, ie a 1/4",3/8",1/2" square drive then I would stick with the hex.

unless you are gonna be using it for a lot of high torque applications like suspension work or taking off a lot of lug nuts theres no need for the 1/2. The 3/8's is a good middle ground. I guess it really depends what you are working on if you're gonna be using it on a lot of bolts 15mm and over i'd go with the 3/8

Just realized that the Compact 1/2" impact Northern sells is the pin detent and not ball detent version of the impact....not sure if thats something I do not want or not.

Seems having to use something to depress the pin each time I attach/remove a socket might be kind of a pain in the ***.


Anyone use pin detent tools and have any thoughts on this?
