HD has the Gen 1 blower with a battery and charger on sale for $149. Anyone know how it compares to the Gen 2? Ive been eyeing the blower for quick cleanups, and I've been wanting another battery/charger to add to my collection.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...Kit-W-5-0Ah-Battery-Charger-2728-21/303859746

when you say quick cleanups what do you mean ? blowing out some patios/walkways/driveway/flower beds after mowing etc ? or making a mess in the garage/driveway?

If so the gen1 has plenty of power. 5.0's will be fine for quick stuff under 15 minutes. I use mine all of the time for that kind of stuff and its great, i even did the oak leaves in my yard with it once and it did a decent job even though i used a few batteries, but i have 1.5 acres.

if you are trying to clear a big lot of leaves in tall grass then you probably want a backpack anyways.

There is always going to be something newer, better, more powerful about to come out.

Exactly.... blowing quick messes out of the garage or blowing the deck off before sitting out there. I have a commercial backpack blower for all the real yardwork already.

Interestingly, my mom texted me today. Her 2728 (Gen 1 blower) started smoking and smelling burnt she said. She says she's only used it 4-5 times (I believe her).....and I KNOW when she uses it it's light use as she's not physically capable of anything more than a few minutes on her sidewalks.

She sent it off via e-service.

That said, my 2728 was fine and I used mine way more than my mom. My ex-wife now has my old 2728 and I just grabbed a 2724 (2nd gen blower) for $100 at HD using the string trimmer promo and then returning the trimmer immediately (thanks again for the reminder 2manytools)

The 2724 is definitely better. More power and the high/low is a welcome addition.

I still don’t understand the concept. Do you need to return it without the receipt? Do you get to keep the battery too? Or is that in the box with the trimmer?

I use mine 2-3 times a week for that stuff and its more than capable. I wouldnt over think it. Which ever one you can get the deal on, get it

I actually perfer the smaller compact blower for messes in the garage as the larger one is to powerful and makes a mess in a hurry.

There is no mention of doing it without receipt. Would have no guarantee you can do the return, either they just say no or you may be banned from no-receipt returns.

Battery comes with the trimmer as a kit. If you need a battery, you might as well keep the 9/charger, and sell the trimmer for ~160.

Oh, the concept, you have heard "nothing is sold for free." Same applies here. HD does not have verbage on the receipt that says you are required to return a free item when bundled with something else. Rather they proportionately discount each item totalling what the free items value is. So if you have your choice of 'free' item in some promotions like the Ryobi, and your intention is only keeping the base item, pick the most expensive 'free' item and return that. If you only want the 'free' item like the blower, buy it with the base item, and then return that

Does anyone know how to get through this shockingly awful policy that disallows you from using store credit for online purchases?

All I’ll say is good luck returning any power tools to HD. They declined my return on a new tool in the box perfectly packaged AND with a receipt.

That’s not the policy at all. You should have asked for a manager. I returned a Ryobi jigsaw that I used once and did not like with zero issues.

We’re you within the 90-day return window?

I'll second this one, recently returned an m18 fuel circular saw kit that I ordered online. Went in with the receipt and they took it back no problem

If they're not taking returns WITH A RECEIPT and within the return window that'd be an immediate credit card dispute for me. I use my Amex and they won't win - Amex sides w the card holder 99% of the time (figure of speech - I have no hard statistics)

Just found a leftover 7-1/4 m18 saw with 9.0 battery. Dude ran the numbers before he would bring it off the top shelf. Said it’s a penny I can’t sell it to you. I said can you talk to your manager and see what you can do. Came back with last clearance price of 63.03. I bought it

I had some problems with HD returns a few years ago. I made the majority of my purchases using discount gift cards, alot of which were actually "store credit". Even when trying to return something with a reciept I would be declined because the purchase was made with store credit.

Stupid rule, and even after numerous phone calls and a waiting period with a 3rd party company called "The Retail Equation" they never got the issue straightened out.

In the end I had some family members and a friend to the returns for me and I learned my lesson with that goofy store credit nonsense.

i'm in the same boat but I actually went ahead and bought that deal from HD. The fuel versions make a decent amount of more torque but the head on the 3/8ths fuel model is huge compared to the original.

Either way $100 for a mechanized ratchet with battery, charger and case is a steal, esp considering I've spent over $100 for hand ratchets.

It was the customer service manager that told me that. She basically accused me of "renting" the tool. The girl working there was nice, she was going to call Tools and ask them, and her manager barked "don't bother you're not returning it!"

So now I go to HD to look at Milwaukee tools then go home and order them through Acme or CPO. Never had a problem with either of them, great service.

who are you?

Just a guy hoping to see Milwaukee deals in the Milwaukee Tools Deal thread. There are other threads for what you want to kvetch about. If you want to talk about HD policies, there is in deed a thread for that, in where I replied to your complaint. I guess I like organization, and can be OCD about it. Not particularly a fan of looking for one thing, and it being in a totally different spot, or having to sift through for what only should be there.

My question is what is your store credit from?

This is what I imagine seeing here for example:

M12 Soldering Kit w/ extra 3ah battery - $129 @ HD

Damn that's a decent deal on the M12 soldering iron. Thanks!

The 12" Mitre Saw 6955-20 with free stand 48-08-055 is $448 Canadian for any in Canada or those close to the border. It shows the stand as a $159 value so if you returned the stand the saw would be $289 Canadian or ~220 US$

https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.12-inch-dual-bevel-sliding-compound-mitre-saw.1000526692.html

No, no, no! How are you returning and getting full value back? That is not how their items ring up. The only way you are getting the full amount back is with a no-receipt return, given back as store credit, which is not the same as cash in my pocket.

Please go read the rest of this thread. You will see plenty of posts on how their system works, the proper way. You are potentially performing retail fraud going about it that way. Though I'm not sure how Canada treats that. That is the reason they limit no-receipt returns.

Best your going to get the saw for (legitimately) is $330.65. 448 *(448/607)

I took the stand back, gave the clerk my original invoice, the clerk had the tools manager come verify the stand was the one on the invoice and a HD product. Put my CC in the card reader, it processed the return and placed the $159 plus taxes back on my card.

Maybe you should have asked how I did the return before you stated alluding to any fraud being done. There was the actual cash receipt that was presented. Maybe Canada does things somewhat differently. Possibly Canada does the computer system payment/refund handling differently. We have been doing chip cards form many years while the US was still using cheques.

This was all done by the HD system with zero human intervention.

I have been here for a number of years and have read this and other threads.

I want to buy the Milwaukee fan. I see Acmetools has the best price. Do they normally run promos that I should wait for?

Your system is different then. Nothing to do with the chip card. First, for online purchases you have to return everything in a bundle, as they don't separate it here. if you get a "free' battery or tool, that would have to go back of you wanted a refund. In store is the only way to get the savings that are mentioned here. They take the cost of the 'free' item and deduct that proportionately against the main bundle item & the 'free' item. If HD rang out one of the items truely at $0.00, then you could return the full priced other item & really get a free tool, but they don't want that to happen. So both items are discounted, and then you can return one of the item for a significant savings on the other.

It does sound like your system does things differently, for sure at least online. The only way to get FULL price back on an item from online or in-store in the US, would be doing a no-receipt return, and that is no guarantee for everyone (if you have done one before, or they just say no). Perhaps HD is more trusting of their Canadian customers. :) So while definitely not their intention, It does sound like you can return the item for full cost legitimately. Lucky guy

Thanks for the help, but I decided to just order the trimmer, 9.0 battery and gen 2 blower combo for 299 and will keep them all. I have a Husqvarna string trimmer that used to get used pretty heavily, but I've changed my landscaping around and have much less trimming to do now. I'll probably sell off the Husqvarna and keep the Milwaukee. I figure having one less engine to maintain every year now is probably a good thing anyways...
