Jake,
just want to thank you for helping me spend my Friday money early. Now I can concentrate on being productive. :bounce:

Haha, sometimes it's good to get those purchases out of the way early. I waste less time later on deciding what to buy if the extra money is already gone.

It's definitely a steal at that price for the kit. I paid $149 bare tool last year and was happy with it at that price.

I’m waiting on a good deal on the M12 polisher/sander....
Me too at first... But I was after m18 polisher, grinder and the m12 polisher kit too... Problem with all of them... Damn batteries don't last long enough... Even with 9ah battery on m18... It seems polisher, grinders on cordless is not there yet... I am guessing the grinding, buffing ***** battery juice like crazy.. I had a Bosch cordless grinder and lastes less then 5mins..

Yutube had video on grinder test with top brands, top battery, all same ****, not lasting.. They were surprised... I mean grinding, buffing... Not cutting.

I know the cordless saws flexvolt m18 miter saws, sawzall, saws and various cordless last long time... But cordless is not yet ready for grinding and buffing duties..

I dunno what you're trying to do w the 2438 or what you expect, but mine has made me tens of thousands of dollars polishing the ends of saw cut Al tube

As for the 2738, I'm the last one to give advice on waxing vehicles (I might wash my trucks twice a year) but my ex-wife did her entire '05 Yukon before our 2738 was stolen. IIRC she went through a couple 5.0s but as many batteries as I have.....you could wax the entire UPS fleet.

IOW for many of us addicts.... what's the big deal w swapping batteries a few times in a job????

Furthermore you're bashing polishers but linked to a video w grinders. The Milwaukee was "tested" w a 5.0 but we have 9.0s available which is what I use on my grinders in the shop.

That said, you are not a candidate for cordless because your expectations are unrealistic. You seem to be expecting 110VAC performance. No, they're not there yet.

But as a metalworker who spends every day in my own fab & machine shop and this is how I pay the bills, I can tell you the 2781's (F the paddles!) are invaluable to my business and have their place, no doubt. But when I have extended grinding to do I still reach for corded.

It's all about fitting the tool to the job.

As for their "test," I encourage everyone to take the findings as very general guidelines. Abrasive brand and type are HUGE. I'm gonna hope they used a brand new, identical brand wheel on each. But after that comes operator technique; the amount of pressure applied will GREATLY ENORMOUSLY affect battery life and if it was the same operator grinding for 3.5 SOLID minutes each grinder, he'd have to be at least a little fatigued near the end.

First if all... Most reviews in polishers are saying same thing.. Batteries don't last.. Grinders and polishers have similar action grinding, buffing on resistance, thus the amperage, batteries usage fast...9.0s almost same as the flexvolt they tested.. 5.0... Its still battery bigger or smaller... Usage is fast.... And usually grinding, buffing is long time usage.. But surely 5mins is way too short for any power tool... I expect 45mins.

And I have used both flexvolt saws and m18 9ah saws tools, include the string trimmer.. Works great almost like corded and last long. But blower doesn't last long.. Cannot replace gas blower yet..

Cordless tools are now advertised by manufacturer as being able to replace corded tools.. And in most case, it almost true... But when it comes to grinding, buffing.... And blowers... Its not ready yet.. They haven't reached that goal..

That's your fault for believing the marketing hype.

Again, fit the tool to the job.

Again, I pay the bills w a cordless grinder, used WHEN APPROPRIATE.

You can do and claim what you want but you can't disprove that cordless grinders are very useful FOR ME (and thus presumably for others)

A couple price drops on Acme Tools.

M18 Compact Vacuum, $84 down from $99
https://www.acmetools.com/shop/tools/milwaukee-0882-20-m18-compact-vaccum

Can that Vac be used to **** up water like a wet/dry shop vac? I don't see that capability listed in the description, so I doubt it. For example, I like to use my shop vac for getting the last bit of water out of toilet bowls when installing a new toilet. I think I'll have to go with the 0880-20 wet/dry vac, but I sure like the compactness of this other unit.

Thanks
-Chris

No, it's a dry vac only. It's a great compact option for small messes when you don't need a full shop vac. I use it around the house a lot too if I don't feel like getting the corded vacuum out.

For nearly the same price the M18 wet/dry vac is a much better value. You do need to open the lid and attach a nozzle each time you use it, so it's not quite as instant as the compact. It's a bit bigger/heaver too but I have found myself using it much more than my M12 compact vac (pretty much the same as the M18 compact).

Between the 2, it's a lot easier tossing the wet/dry vac box anywhere. I got a couple 1-1/4 hard thbe extensions thru Sears (for free with points) to make a lot of clean up jobs easier. Wish Milwaukee made a space to store those on the unit.
I was going to jump on the new backpack canister vac, but after reading it really isn't for carpet, it will be a tougher sell to the parties involved. Wanted to clean a few office spaces, but sounds more or only larger debri & construction oriented.

The teacup vac is perfect for in the house (under kitchen table & stuff) the wet/dry vac is better for in the garage/vehicles/etc.

M18 Charger Radio came in today and for some reason it’s not working. It worked for a few minutes but noticed that it sounded like ****. Very low volume and distorted sound and now it doesn’t have any sound coming out from it. Tried FM tuning, Aux and Bluetooth with no luck. Strange.

If your in the Eugene, Oregon area Jerry's has the bottom Milwaukee Packout roller box on sale for $79.99. I honestly don't know if thats a good deal or not, since most of the time I've seen them in stores they are a set. I might just have to replace my 5 gallon bucket that I use as my quick grab and go tool set...

My corded shop vac lives in the garage and the M18 compact vac gets used in the house and on small jobs for quick cleanup. Cutting in outlets, cleaning wire strippings, sawdust, etc.

The M18 compact vac doesn’t come with a bag, but it fits perfectly (including accessories) in the bag that came with my M18 Fuel Hackzall kit, and the Hackzall fit even better in the unused bag I had from my M18 drill/impact kit.

Cordless tools, even those that quickly eat through batteries, have their place. A gas leaf blower would be overkill when I only need a few minutes to clean the driveway and sidewalk.

Same with the grinders, my welding table at home has 3 corded grinders on it. But if I have a quick mobile welding job a short runtime with cordless grinder is more than acceptable for convenience and time saved.

All about the right tool for the job, regardless of brand and corded/cordless.

I'll happily accept a short battery life if it means I don't have to drag an extension cord or air line out for a quick job. Even if I have to replace the battery once or twice it's still faster than running an extension cord to who knows where. Or dragging out an airline and waiting for the compressor to fill up.

What is the best price out there on a M12 3.0ah compact battery? I can find one for $50 shipped, am I missing a better deal elsewhere?

$55 should get you a 6.0ah battery. Check out amazon. I recently bought 2 for 53 bucks each.

I've got some 6.0ah batteries, I was looking for the compacts. I probably ought to look into and hour per dollar for the compacts. Maybe 2.0s are cheaper per ah.

The 3.0 compact batteries are real nice for the heated jackets. Same size but 50% longer lasting. I got a two pack on eBay for $95 shipped in the winter time.
