I bought an inflator, at Home Depot, in store, for 44$ (plus tax).
I purchased this deal:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/309029813
and returned the battery/charger/bag portion.
right there on the receipt was printed that the BCB return value was 56$, and the inflator return value was 44$. so I looped outside, put the inflator in the truck, and went back in and returned the BCB package.
"anything wrong with it?"
"nope, just dont want it."
no problems.
1) if Home Depot didn't want you to be able to do this, they would not print, on the receipt, the separate return values. they would print something to the effect that both items must be returned together.
2) it is not clear that this works in the "order online, deliver to store" world, since it does not appear discounted at all when you add the individual items to your cart, and when you add the deal, it just lists the deal price, not the individual prices with the discount taken out at the bottom.
3) since I assume nothing, I use the self checkout for things like this. after you scan both items, and dismiss the "purchase a warranty" popup, the screen lists both items, with the prorated return under each item, then lists the cost of the "free item" as an "event promo" for, in this case, -79.00
