I was thinking of buying in store and returning the starter kit, that should be a good price for the surge impact right?
Even in store?
Last deal I saw was the Surge, drywall gun, 2x2.0s for $199 on a special buy of the day a couple weeks ago, and wasn't available long at all.
After the current promos are over (8/3), the next one includes buying the M12 surge kit @ $199, get a 'free' 2.0 battery, $59 value. Depending on what you are looking for. In testing though, the m12 does not appear to have the same power as the M18.
Just a FYI, you did not buy a kit, just a promotional 'free' battery. A kit is the tool (maybe more than 1), 1 or 2 batteries, and a charger in one box (model ending in -21 or -22 indicating battery count). You bought a bare tool (model ending in -20) and battery. Milwaukee has now begun doing "starter kits" which are batteries, bag & charger, and then selling more bare tools.
The way you posted it, it sounds like it came in one box, and you returned the battery. Not trying to knock you down or anything, just want to clarify what we are all talking about.
Next month (after the current promo) there will be multiple M12 tools that you can pick up with a 'free' 2.0 battery, and several M18 bare tools & kits that come with a 'free' 5ah battery.
I love my sander. Bought it to sand a mahogany deck this last month ,and I put it through the paces. I wouldn't use it with a 9ah as it will probably feel a little off balanced, but I was using 2, 3 HO, and 5's and it just kept going. Granted I haven't used another sander in years to compare, I still wouldn't trade the convenience of only having the vacuum hose attached, which was a must. I picked my sander up for ~$80 and while it will sit for a long time (sort of hopefully) I'm glad I have it.

I'm the opposite. I had the corded version and just picked up the cordless. Used both to sand down my 500sqft cedar deck. It chews through 5.0 batteries and has no balls compared to the corded one.
It's good for light duty quick jobs, not so much for heavy duty or stripping.
I wish I had a more usable corded one then. It seemed like there was something not right about the Metabo, that I got tired of fartin' around trying to figure out. Seems like a tank,
I have a feeling I won't be sanding anything like that again, unless there is actual money coming my way.

The 149.99 rocket light last month came with a 6.0 this month for the same price a 2.0![]()
Yeah, nothing really grabs me from that list. I have a M18 Surge, so I don’t need a M12 model. Glad I purchased the inflator last week under the old deal.
That M12 Surge kit + free 2.0 battery has my name all over it. How much will the "free" 2.0 battery be listed for on the receipt? I definitely don't need any more 2.0 batteries so that will be a quick return which should get me the M12 Surge kit for what, maybe $150?
I see the M12 2.0 battery is $59 on the HD website...will that end up being the price they put on the receipt? If so that would get me the M12 Surge kit for $140?

You would get it for $140, if that was the case, but not how it works. I know most don't want to read back on old deals & glance at the eye-catching end price, but you would see the amount is pro-rated, never the actual original amount of the item. Apologies for the rudeness, just the question is asked more than you would believe, but I see you hang out more in the tool discussion area. Anyway...
The best way to look at it, you are getting a discount of $59 on your $258 purchase. That is 22.86% off (59/258). Multiply that by the original cost of each item, and that is the discount off each item. Or multiple by the inverse for the actual cost. (199/258) x cost.
Kit will be $153.49. If you shop with a military member or have a lowes 10% off, ask for it to be applied only to the kit (easiest to ask before the freebie is rang), and that will make it $134.72

this appears to be all M12, is there a similar M18 page? I can never find these things on homedepot.com . . . . .

Just bought one. Took probably 15 minutes of a couple employees and I searching the stock on the top shelves until we found them. Anyway the return value of the battery was $49.68
Awesome, thanks! I'm going to swing by Monday morning and hopefully snag one. Have you used the Surge yet?
I also might grab one of these:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...18-5-0Ah-Battery-2780-20-48-11-1850/305907383
If my math is correct, that $129 5.0 battery should ring up for $74, so the tool itself should be about $105. I recently decided to replace my older DeWalt 18v tools with Milwaukee M12/M18 (since I have a ton of batteries already), I picked up an M12 drill last week so the grinder is next up, seems like a good deal.
I just drove a couple screws and lags to try it out. It was faster and quieter than my m12 gen 1 fuel impact with 3" screws. And it drove a 3/8" lag deeper than the gen 1 could. Though if I was going to do that for real I would grab my stubby which would put both of them to shame.
Thanks, Been eyeing this kit for a while. Came today and fits nicely in a medium packout.M18 polisher on sale, and home depot is price matching

You'll have to tell me how it works, I've been eyeing that, and the chainsaw. I'm hoping the chainsaw goes on sale for black Friday
I got my saw with 1 batt for $300. I'd like to see a 12ah for no more tgan $120.You'll have to tell me how it works, I've been eyeing that, and the chainsaw. I'm hoping the chainsaw goes on sale for black Friday

saw a display at HD the other day for the fuel hackzall and fuel jigsaw. buy one and get a free 2pk of compact 3.0's free. have the sales tax free weekend coming up in mass this weekend and considering getting both and returning the batteries.
can someone check my math on this ?
jigsaw $199 x (199/298) = $132.**
batteries $199 x (199/298) = $66.**
Hackzall $149 x (149/248) = $89.**
batteries $99 x (149/248) = $59.**
Does this look right ?
EDIT: hackzall is $159 not 149.
You have to buy 2 of the tools to get one set of batteries.
yeah, the local store highlighted and circled the "TWO". it seems they had been getting a lot of people misreading it.
this bodes well, though, for those battery sets going on sale sometime in the future. usually these things are well accepted here, but that display looked full, with only one battery set missing, at the local store.
I wonder how well the M12 rocket light with a free 2AH battery for 149$ is selling, considering that it was with a free 6AH battery for the same price last month . . . .
I actually want the surge and the 2 pack of batteries, I could just return one of the other 2 tools right? Not sure which of the two tools would be best to return. Is the formula the same for 3 items I feel like that has been posted before?
