I have a first gen(I think it's a first gen) M12 3/8 ratchet. Part # 2457-20

Awhile back the head stopped spinning. I took it apart trying to find something broken but everything seemed fine, just gunked up. So I cleaned everything and put it back together. Then it worked again for about 6 months. Recently the same thing happened so I did the same thing but this time it still doesn't work. I guessing either the little pistons or the pawl is worn out.

I do have "better" high speed and extended reach M12 ratchets but I do really like this one quite a bit so I would like to fix it if possible and if it's not going to cost a crazy amount of money.

I'm thinking I will just but a new "head" kit for it. I've seen some with a raised selector, that would be great. Problem is I can't seem to find which rebuild kits are for which ratchets.

Does anyone know of a list that states which heads will fit in what ratchets?

If its still running fine but the ratchet mechanism isnt oscillating, it could a broken crankshaft. Several years ago, I had to replace mine. It takes a tamper resistant T9 and regular T10 to split the clamshell IIRC.

Here is a pic I snapped back then. The circled part should be one piece.

Good thought. I did check the crankshaft and it’s intact. Actually the tear drop shaped part of the head oscillates back-and-forth so it’s probably the pawl is worn. I could probably just replace that and the spring but I don’t think you can get them on their own.

Don't know this is related to the issue the OP is having, but when my original small-head Milwaukees started slipping I've had to replace the anvil assemblies. I've worn out and replaced the 3/8" one twice now, and the 1/4" once. I routinely break free and tighten with them, within reason (like <100 ft lbs) and have chalked the issues I've had up to that. If a cordless ratchet can't handle that I've little to no use for it. I've not had any other issues with them in the 8+ years I've had them.

Thanks for all the help guys, greatly appreciated.

Still can't seem to find out if there is a "tall" selector option for this ratchet however. I figure I might as well upgrade if I;m going to replace it...

The taller / easier to move switch, especially with oily/greasy gloves on, is just one of the reasons I prefer my Dewalts and the Milwaukees don't get used near as often any more.
