Had to service my Milwaukee M12 impact 3/8 ratchet. Would like to replace the retaining ring (snap ring) since they lose tension when they are expanded. The parts fiche everywhere shows part #12 but no part number. They are available with the whole assembly but the snap ring is all I need. I know I can take it apart again, and take it to the hardware store to try to match it, but I'd rather not expand it again until I have a replacement on hand. Anyone know the size - thickness etc., or a part number?

To close this out. Pulled it off and measured things, which seemed to be the only option because I have not heard back from Milwaukee as to a part number. It looks like it might be 12mm. The groove measured .442". A 12 mm external snap ring has an internal ID .429 to .437", which is very close to the .442" groove. Thickness of the 12mm one at McMaster-Carr is .038" to .040" , which is close to the .0415" that the present ring measures.

American Standard sizes 15/32 would be for a groove 0.443" which is correct but the thickness is only .025", too thin, although it would work.

Might get a half dozen of each. McMaster-Carr sells them like 100 min, but maybe the local Napa or Ace has them.

Have you tried calling them ? 1-800-729-3878 That is always my first step. I don't know why some of these manufacturers even have a "contact me" form because they never rely to them.

no but their online form sent me back a case number so if I don't hear from them by Monday or Tuesday I will call. For now I over compressed it a little to shrink it, and it settled about where it should be. It was very hard to get it back into the groove, even with all the parts perfectly in place and compressed. I've done thousands of snap rings in my life but this one was the worst.
