Milwaukee Sawzall Injury issues?

I haven't personally experience this (perhaps I have a newer saw with the extended guard?) but it appears it was actually an issue at one time.

According to that link, that model of saw was mashing/crushing peoples finger(s) in the chuck at certain times.

Seems Milwaukee even acknowledged the issue and was replacing the guard with a sturdier/longer one to fix the problem.

I've never heard of that before, and quite frankly thought Milwaukee was the top of the line in Sawzall's (I know that's their name).

Any thoughts? Anyone experienced this?

It's NOT during a blade change, but has to do with the chuck and front guard during use.

I have almost done it a few times when trying to get a cut started on something slippery.

The key is to keep your fingers away from the business end.

I've done it a couple of times over the years with reciprocating saws - if you use them every day, it's bound to happen at least once; especially up in an attic in the middle of summer, sweating like a pig - but it sounds like it's a lot worse with this particular model.

I'll admit I was kind of surprised. I can't tell if my models (I have 2) of Milwaukee saws have the better guard on them, I'll check when I get home.

It was from 2009-2010 though, so I'm assuming I've got the better guards since they were purchased recently.

I think that most electrical plugs are similar, if you have your fingers between the outlet and the plastic guard, you get shocked.

My bicycle also has a serious issue, while riding it, if you put your fingers into the spokes they get broken (usually the fingers, not the spokes).

I also have some frying pans and if you touch them after using them it can hurt.

I have that sawzall & I love it. Sure you could get hurt with it if you use it incorrectly....... but how are all manufacturers supposed to make every tool "stupid-proof"? :dunno:
If a person is too dumb to keep their fingers out of a dangerous area of the saw.... why is it the manufacturers fault??!!

How about table saws? So if you cut your finger off using it, it's the manufacturers fault that they built a saw that does what it's designed to do? (cut through stuff)

Its a tool of the devil anyway. I much prefer a cut-off tool when possible. Nothing like cutting solid steel and having your arm turned to jelly from all the vibration.

yeah, gotta pile on with most of what is already said in this thread. I have that saw. It has never gone out of its way to injure me.

Right next to that spot where people keep jamming their hand is the blade. I would really just keep my fingers out of that whole region.

While not this issue, it involves a sawzall, and me being an idiot. I was cutting my exhaust pipe and at one point thought that it would fall down when i cut through. then I must have forgotten and the pipe fell and cut the back of my hand. I thought it was like when you scratch dry skin at first, until i saw my tendons and such. Will never do that again. Luckily all I have is a scar and my hand works properly.

Staples? Came out pretty nice. I was amazed when I had my surgeries how well it healed. Before they yanked the staples, I looked like frankenstein.

I want to say something rude about Sawstop but everything I type just doesn't seem terrible enough.

Stitches, I was wearing safety glasses though! This was 2 days after if I remember correctly.
