As I inch closer to retirement I want to get all my tools upgraded or just plain get them before I retire so I don't have to worry about spending the money then.
I would like to buy made in USA products but good international products may have to in some cases...lol
My question is what are your thoughts on milwaukee socket sets and opened end wrenches?

I have the metric sockets that come in the pack out. I have used them sparingly. But I would think you could get equal quality for less. The ratchet seemed to be nice. This set is on my SxS for trail repairs

Milwaukee sockets and wrenches are made in Taiwan and there are plenty of made in Taiwan options, so shop around. There may be some design features and minor details with Milwaukee hand tools that are different, so ideally you'll want to hold the tool in your hand before making a decision.

For some reason, I always think their wrenches look cheap. Must be something with the chrome and the filled in logo and sizes. 🤷‍♂️ I like the I-beam designs though. I have a set of Facom XL wrenches with a similar design and really like the way they feel. If you like that style, as Professional Tool User said, shop around. Facom/USAG, new Craftsman V-Series and some Toptul have similar designs.

I have a couple of the sockets that I bought just for the flat sides. Thought it would make it a bit easier replacing the struts on my wife’s car. I don’t know that I would want them all the time. The square bottom makes them a little chunkier than other sockets of the same sizes. At least it feels that way. Otherwise, they were fine.

If you want US made, check out Wright. I just built out a metric 3/8 set from Epstein’s. With the GJ discount, they are more than fair. I really like their satin finish on their wrenches too. Great stuff.

I don't think the Milwaukee hand tools are really worth buying, not that they're bad but probably better options for import tools. Tekton would likely be a good starting point, mostly Taiwan made, some usa made and some china but I believe the wrench's are Taiwan.

I was just looking at Wright wrenches and prices looked ok. Their sockets seemed high?
Can anyone give me the GJ discount for Epstine's or any other distributor for Wright tools.

I bit on these today. Thought for in the car they'd be OK. I also work as an interior finish carpenter and thought the ''completeness" of the set might come in handy on a jobsite. The largest bolt/nut combination I have turned in recent months required a 9/16" wrench/socket to change wheels on a drywall cart. http://slickdeals.net/f/15732121-mi...e-48-22-9004-70-home-depot?v=1&src=SiteSearch along with a set to flip on FBM. I saw this thread shortly after ordering.

Not all Milwaukee hand tools are China I bought some pliers a few weeks ago that said Vietnam and have seen Taiwan on others. And saw blades are USA.

I dunno. Saw the sockets for the first time yesterday Depot had rails of 3/8 deep at like $40 each? About the same price as other import like tekton & craftsmen.

The square bit is interesting... anti roll I guess? I'd like to think they're using their own molds or blanks... however sockets are made to get that shape. They stand out in a crowd.

Mostly screwdrivers & pliers here, tape measures etc but I've been stoked with the Milwaukee stuff I've bought. IMO certainly some of the nicer gear you can grab off the shelf.

Squares are weaker than a circle and the square sockets have a larger radius than round sockets, which could affect usability in tight places. 100% gimmick.

Go to their website and see if you have a local distributor sometimes you can get a pretty good deal through them. Epstein e did have a gj discount but now they Have the decoder ring and they have done away with it. Circle C is a good supplier of Wright I have used them in the past. Zoro is another good one they have discounts every once in a while. Love there wrenches if I had to do it all over again I would have all Wright wrenches.

Well you guys talked me into Wright tools.
Zoro sent me a 15% off coupon so I ordered a set of 1/2" drive Chrome sockets and a 11" ratchet. 3/8" will be next months order.
