I have a cordless Milwaukee M18 drill and the speed switch is stuck on #1. I've tried forcing it by hand and it doesn't move. I was going to use a set of large pliers to force it but I don't want to break anything internally. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Try sliding the gear selector with the drill turning SLOWLY. These transmissions can get stuck between teeth in a position where they cannot be engaged without a little motion.

Sorry to tell you but you have to open the head and switch it from the inside. Once you lock in the gear 2, you have to leave it as is. The plastic case that holds the gear in place is broken.

Mine broke bc I switch gear while it's in motion.

Thanks for the tip.

I could only move the rotating BPM switch on the (used, Milwaukee corded 1/2" hammer) drill I just bought from "2" (pointed straight back) some 90* (to pointed straight down). With your approach, I quickly was able to move it a full 180* to "1" (pointed straight to the front).

(Note: It's a lot easier for me to rotate the switch when I turn the chuck by hand.)
