I apologize if this isn't considered vintage - couldn't really find any other info on it. I don't know much about it other than it was used very little - it was given to me for some work I did. What is the knurled piece by the chuck used for? I couldn't tell if it was for assembly of some other function. Thanks

It's a beast - not sure what I'd do with it

I believe it's a hammer drill. See if you can rotate that knurled collar and make it hammer.

Thanks - I considered that too but on this drill its tight with the main shaft (spins with the chuck).. I tried looking up similar drills and haven't found any with a similar fixture

Take an up close picture of the tag. That's awesome, what is the chuck size on it?

I have a drill press with a similar collar. It is threaded and used to force the chuck off of the spindle taper.

I think most drills used threaded chuck mounts though, often with a screw with opposite threads to keep it from loosening in the reverse direction.

Here is the close up of the tag - I'll try to get a better shot of the chuck today

Screw a piece of black pipe in the other handle hole, you'll need it. That drill WILL hurt you if you're not careful. I've used one installing truck beds, drilling the frame for shear plates. It's really a 2 man job that involved bracing the pipe handle against the underside of the truck bed.

That collar is probably a forcing collar to remove the chuck/taper. Not a hammer drill feature, although some drills do use a very similar mechanism to engage the hammer mechanism. That's awesome, I'd certainty hang onto it, even just for novelty.

Did you end up finding any info on this drill (manual or any history)??
I have a similar morse taper drill from milwaukee but can't get much info on it.
The name plate on mine says 1" capacity and is model number P-103R.
