Milwaukee VS Makita (Hex Impact Driver)

i have a older cm drill and impact driver. looking to get into something new but wanted to see how good the Hex Impact Drivers are in both brands as those are the two im looking at.

not looking at m12 stuff. just m18 fuel when it comes to Milwaukee

both good. buy the line that you think supports your needs better.

i wouldn't look at one specific tool unless you know that is all you are going to use, and even then the differences are minimal. i think 200 inch pounds difference. that isn't going to make or break anyone

They are both good, you would be happy with either. Maybe look at specs, handle them both, which feels better to you. Maybe you can get an extra battery with one. You really only need two, but they do die sometimes. Look at the rest of the tool line, what other tools might buy?

Right now, Makita's new brushless hammer drill has the highest torque ratings, even more than the m18 fuel. Not sure about the impact drivers, but honestly - all the brushless stuff is so strong, they will do anything you need. My m18 fuel 1/4" hex drive impact driver can remove the axle nuts from my Honda with a fresh battery..

Buy what you like, or for what other tools you plan on buying.. If going brushless, Milwaukee offers the most tools, and most other brushed tools have higher torque ratings than makita. However, makita has a lot more tools available, in many other areas of work like chain saws, string trimmers, and a lot more.. Both are built equally well. Both are highly respected names.. If you can't decided - pick your favorite color.. The only other thing makita offers over milwaukee is an adapter plate to run dual 18v batteries on some tools, like a circular saw, which will give you a much longer run time.

Just typed up a few paragraphs and lost it, sigh*...

But I explained how Milwaukke is dominating the current powertool market, and the brushless motors are putting out better power and battery life. I used to be a huge Makita fan, but recently got a couple red Milwaukke tools, including a drill and a nice 3/8th brushless m12 fuel impact!

I like how compact the m12 batteriees are, even the 2.0's. Also what I like about the red tools is the battery LED life display on the side of the tool showing you how much life is left.

the Makita XPH07 is the drill ill be getting most likely.

when i was looking up some info on the Makita impact i came across a video woodstockva did on the Milwaukee impact and thats what led to this thread. i know buying them as a kit/combo it cheaper but if i need to spend more to get the best (2 diff brands) then im fine with that.

The big makita hammer drill looks really nice, except its also pretty heavy (almost 6 lbs with battery pack, per Makita)

If "size matters" to you, I think a more fair comparison to Milwaukee would be the LXT brushless drill. Spec-wise it doesnt fare as well against the Milwaukee Fuel, but it's similar in size and weight (the Makita is a little lighter, but with a slightly smaller capacity battery).

Im still torn on the M18 Fuel hammer drill vs the Makita XPH07. To me one of the main reasons going to Lithion is weight savings, but the big Makita kind of negates that. I havent handled it yet myself, I wonder if HD stocks them in store.

makita has nice compact 12V tools as well as Milwaukee. I have Makita brushless tools as they came to market first. I some times wonder if I should have waited to get Milwaukee brushless. I have been happy with purchase so far. My only regret is that I bought a combo kit, which did not come with the 3 speed impact or the better hammer drill. I had first bought the 3 speed brushless, and expected to get that in the combo kit. I did not know that some brushless we're not 3 speed. The 3 speed is important because it gives 3 different torque specs. The low setting is great for plastic, middle setting great for wood.

Either way you go they are both great tool lines. Check out the tools in each line and see which ones you will most likely use. There are new tools being introduced all the time. Good luck.

I'm bias a bit because the local Milwaukee rep is a friend but I've been extremely happy with both my m12 driver and my m18 3/8,1/2 impacts and driver as well.

I would pick Makita but it depends on which model. Unlike Milwaukee, Makita offers a dozen multiple models of Impact Driver, the brushed model, a single speed brushless, a 3 speed brush less, 3 speed with whatyacallit automatic torque control, a super small Japanese domestic model, a upcoming oil pulse impact due out next year. I currently have Bosch, Mauwaukee and Makita, had Dewalt in the past and IMHO the build quality of Makita (on par with Bosch) and both above Milwaukee and Dewalt. Also Milwaukees's dominance as the most powerful in spec is numbered. Makita just released a compact impact wrench that has the same torque but faster rpm and higher ipm so theoretically stronger than the FUEL at least on paper.

I like the Makita, I have the three speed brushless and abuse it everyday. The milwaukee battery seems a bit chunky to me
