Been watching this site for awhile. Impressed with all the information available here. Having a polebarn put up this fall (if weather is ok). I am going to try and post a picture of a floorplan that I drew up for everyone to look at. Please tell me why you think. Thanks

Sorry the dimensions did not show up very good. The building will be 36 ft. deep and 40 ft. long with 11 ft. walls. The garage doors will be 10 ft. wide.

Run power in the slab in a few places incase you ever decide to install the table saw permanently. I wish I had conduit in the slab for mine. Also if your allowed floor drains are a big plus.

I like the layout, one of the biggest issues I have is adequate storage space, so take advantage of your height with lots of shelving and storage containers.
Plan your electrics out well, plenty of outlets and good lighting.
All the best with your build.

I think your scale is a bit off. Your rig is over ten feet wide if that is a 10' door and the bay is 18' wide. So be careful making to many decisions based on a drawing that is not to scale. That said one thing to consider is the door between the two sides. I would make it a 4' or wider so that equipment and stuff can be moved from one side to the other. Another factor that weighs in here is what you plan to do in the heated vs the unheated area. You may want to move the dividing wall to make one area larger or smaller considering the use in the area and the heating cooling costs. Also consider do you want the parking area wide enough for two rigs.

Lots of opportunity there and I hope it fulfills your dreams.

I used icovia room planer for the drawing. It should be to scale. Their standard truck that I inserted was 9ft 11in wide. Mine measures 8ft mirror tip to mirror tip. Building a 36x40 I guess I should use 35x39 to allow for the 6in walls. Also need to take out another 6in for divider wall. My main concern is door placement. What do you think of the 10ft doors being 4ft from outside walls?

I considered having a 4ft plus door in the wall between the shop and parking area, but decided since each area has a 10ft garage door I could just open them both and drive around front. Hated to use valuable wall space for a extra large door I could do without. What do you think?

One of the big mistake I made was getting the door to close to the outside wall preventing the use of that wall for much storage. So yes 4' is a good idea.

If you look at my build below you can see similar design features with a dividing wall. In my case I do not have an OH door on the small shop so I put in a section of removable wall and a smaller man door. Now that I have used it awhile I wish I had gone with a larger man door. Another issue with the door between the areas is that I have it near the outside wall so I cannot carry long items through it at an angle or turn them while going through. Where you have the door in the middle of the dividing wall should be better.
