I have two Gree Ceiling cassettes installed in my garages. The units were installed with 3M foam fire seal. The question is whether or not the units themselves need further fire protection treatment. I have a home inspector that is asking and Gree and the distributor have been unable to answer the question.

What is the 3M foam seal sealing?

All the facia panels I've seen on cassettes have been either plastic or fibreglass, can't see either of them being fire rated. You might need to build a fire rated box over the top of the cassette to seal off the garage if I have understood your situation correctly.

I doubt they are fire rated. I used to sell Gree mini splits up about a month ago. I looked online at submittals and installation instructions and not one mention of fire ratings.

If it is a major issue you will need to have a contractor come in and build a continuous box of fire rated sheetrock over the units, keep in mind you might need service access on the sides, but I don't know.
