Mini ductor coils

Anyone ever make their own coils for the Mini ductor? I just got one off CL last night, not to keen on paying over 100 bucks for a coil kit for it.

Found some high temp (1100F) ceramic sheathing on McMaster Carr, so got that part covered, and it looks like it is 8 guage copper wire for the coil itself. I measured a hair over .120 for the OEM stuff, and 8 guage lists as .1285.

25ft of the ceramic sheathing is 21 bucks, so looks like I could make a bunch of custom coils for well under 100.

After crunching some numbers, looks like the equivalent materials will run 36-40 bucks...gonna order and give it a shot, plus it allows me to make custom coils based on demand.

The HF generator expects to see a certain impedance that you presumably don't know. If you don't match the coil impedance properly, you may damage the unit. Just something to think about.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone is making their own coils or if the is something special about them.

As Stienmetz referred to, each coil must be designed to handle the same current. That means every diameter will have a different number of coils and or wire diameter. It is the engineering you are paying for when you buy those coils. Unless you have the ability to set up the differential equations and solve for correct form, I would just buy the coils. Once you have one of a given size, you can duplicate it for spares.

The kit comes with 2 different guages of wire, all have 4 coils.....no clue on the science or engineering that goes into the kit.
I can say the experiment with wire and that loom from MCMaster worked, but it was really bulky. Varying number of coils with 10g solid wire worked fine.
I will say don't be a cheapass and just buy the damn kit...I did just that and it has lasted years and even into the new Venom model....the amount of time it has saved FAR exceeds the 120 or so I have spent on coils.
