My coworker has that one by the looks of it. works well minimal difference if any from the legit miniducter ive also used

I have that one at work. It works OK. It will get a steel slug 3/4" diameter x 3/4" long to a low red heat. I make my own coils for it as needed. I have used it about 50 times so far with different steels of different sizes. It is handy and worthwhile to have.

I use bare solid copper wire. I try to coil it close to the diameter of the item I need to heat. When you wind the coils, maintain an air gap between the coils. The heating of the part might also cause the coils to warp a bit if you heat it a lot, so be aware of that. You can put a high heat insulation on the bare copper wire if you think you will have issues contacting the workpiece or shorting your coils together. If you get creative, you can make coils that will heat specific areas only on your workpiece. You will always be limited by the power available from this unit itself, as it is not of the caliber of an industrial inductive heating source, but it can handle some decent light work.

I have an older original Mini Ductor that works great and a co-worker recently purchased a knock-off but I don't know if he's used it yet. Not sure where he purchased it from either he was just telling us about it last week.

can you post some pictures of the coils you made ? Would be interesting to see some of our designs

Here are a few I have made for special applications. Two are made from Brazing rod, two from copper. You can see that the copper ones certainly experienced a lot of heat in the process from the discoloration and scale. Those were a very close fit, but not quite touching, to the heated part, so the radiated heat transfer was pretty high.

At one point the 90° copper ones were part of an adjustable fixture I had made to test a heating idea on a thin part, but the inductive heater did not have enough energy available to reach the temperature I needed, so the fixture has since been repurposed.

You can experiment with number of turns, coil spacing, coil diameter, etc. to try and get different effects. Moving the part to one side of a larger or asymmetrical coil can get you heat on one side only (relatively). You can make open C shaped coils that allow access over closed items where a regular coil could not be placed over it (like heating a jam nut on a tie rod assembly).
