Mini Hoist

Didn't think this was antique but google says it is.

From the picture on Craigslist


I thought it was going to be bigger than this


Then looked it up and found it's from England, 1950's,
and it can lift 1000 pounds !
(Is that 1000 pounds American ?)


For 10 bucks, how could I resist ?

It's not antique. 100 years plus minimum over here to be an antique, (English kit, English rules ). That looks to be in lovely condition. You got yourself a bargain there.

That's a Halrac Hoist, made in the U.K. and very popular in the 1960 - '70's for use as an engine hoist for DIYer's. Price was 57 shillings and 6 pence Sterling = a half crown less than £STG 3.00, approx equal to US$10.00 in those times.

While max lifting load was 1000lbs, the SWL was about 560 lbs.

Some versions of this hoist came with a cam-lock type gripping handle to make pulling on the cord easier. Haltrac could also supply a lightweight gantry to hang it from if required.

Seven pulleys give 7:1 ?

I put two bricks on the right and still the right side still wouldn't fall by itself.

Lots of friction adding up.
