I started out with pieces and parts today, some angle, some square tube, some bolts and washers. It changed mid way through the project.

I cut two pices of angle. Then I cut the threads and heads off of some 3/4" bolts to make some (soft/grade 2) rod.

Then I drilled out a couple of holes in my grade 2 rod. They weren't exact and didn't think it would cause a problem.

I cut off a few more bolts to make them into "bosses" for the rod to ride on. These were nothing more than 5/16" bolts.

After they were cut and ground down I test fit it.

All looked looked good and everything seemed fine. I welded one side of the angle to the flat stock and slide the rods on. The rods then become the rollers. When I slid the other side on I realized I had a problem. Two of the holes were off center and one of the holes in the angle was too high. I'm not sure how that happened on the angle iron. The rods I understand as I used the drill press and the bit walked. Times like theses is where a lathe would come in handy.

I looked through the short steel tote and found some round tubing. I wish I knew I had that before I started. It would have made life easier. I tossed the rods out and cut two pieces of round tubing to length. I added a short section of square tubing to make the up right section and welded it to a scrap piece of something that was in the tote.

By now, I'm sure you're wondering what this little mini roller is for. The next picture should help you out.

Ever get tired of grabbing blocks of wood to hold up steel while you cut it ? I finally got tired of doing just that and made a roller to hold it.

The paint is drying as I sit here and eat supper. I'll grab another picture tomorrow after it's dry.

It was just a matter of thinking about making something Rob. I finally got tired of carrying blocks of wood and started on it. Usually it's how I get small projects done.

Height not adjustable? Dam, your floor must be level, you ****!:)

It's not adjustable. It won't hold it perfect but it does hold it up, the main purpose.

My new floor is fairly level, it was screeted and a laser was used constantly. There are a few odd spots but it's a helluva lot better than what I had.

Good idea, on the roller and the dolly that the chop saw sits on.

The dolley is from HF, bought on sale for 8 bucks. I screwed a piece of sheetmetal down because of the sparks. As much as I hate buying china ****, it's hard to pass up for $8, you can't find 4 casters for that.

Ahh, the Harbor Freight mini furniture dollies. I love these things. I have about 1/2 dozen of them. I buy them when they are on sale for about $8 or so. Also handy for when my wife decides she wants to move furniture around in the house but is not quite sure where she wants everything. It all goes on these and we can move it here, there, and everywhere, no problem.

well, i want a flat surface around it for some thing i get into, just cause the clamp is rather, well limited.

with it dropped down in the bench, not so much with other clamping devices to hold tubing/square stock etc.

then if i get in a bind where the flat surface dont work, i can pull it out and set it on the floor, or on the bench itself.

see now you got me thinking, and i should really be going to bed instead of playin in the shop..lmao

Nice setup. I should build a couple of those to accompany my B&D Workmate. Now that I look at it…what keeps your saw from wandering when you're setting up (or even running!)? I don't see a locking caster on that dolly :headscrat

If you were a little closer I'ld offer you to come play with my lathe

The wife's Uncle has a lathe and mill that I could have him do some stuff for me. He's retired and loves getting out of the house. I always throw a few bucks to him when he does something for me, it's well worth it and he knows I appreciate it.

Sadly, I wonder where all his stuff will go when he passes. Out of all the nieces/nephews, there's only two of us that would us the stuff. Both of us married into the family but I think he likes us more than his own "blood kin" as we are "normal" and actually work.

 Dunno ? My new floor is pretty damn level. I cut a piece and done, never had a problem with it trying to roll away.

Those dollies are kick *** man. I think I have 8 or nine of them. I generally fill the center in with a piece of plywood or OSB. I have all my spare engine blocks sitting on them. They sit under the blast cabinet and hold the containers of blast sand.
