I have heard some negative comments. Any one ever use one like in a bedroom ?

I have 4 in my bedrooms being feed from an LG 48K BTU mainline to distribution box (7/8 inch return and 3/8 feed).
Each cassette uses a rotary fan not a squirrel cage fan and has a built-in condensate pump.
Each unit is 12K for heating or cooling but I don't use the heat portion.
Respective of a wall unit or in duct unit, these cassettes do cool down just as fast as the other form factors.
Cost-wise, I think they are a couple of hundred dollars more than the wall units. The ceiling vent frame is a separate cost item.
Install was easier in my opinion but I did have to cut ceiling rafters to get the unit in and held it in place with unistruts and 12-inch heavy-duty angles.
I brought all of the equipment from SupplyHouse.
It was a cleaner look and can be installed more centrally was my thinking.

I wanted to do one in our house, both Mitsubishi dealers all but said no to it being a option. The one said they do plenty of them in offices with false ceilings so easy access, also I think with all the insulation in attics didnt help either.
I did two 12's as part of my three head multi system -- Mitsubishi. It was my only option as they went into the second floor of my cape at the beach. No wall space --
They have worked very well.
Mitsubishi has a new ceiling unit that fits in standard framing -- mine were the square type and we had to make a box in the ceiling to hold them. Not hard ... extra step and the new ones are more residential looking.

You'll love it when it drips on your forehead when you're trying to sleep. Or when (not if) the IFM run cap goes bad and it's almost impossible to replace without more or less completely disassembling it. I wouldn't sell one to an enemy.

Not to argue -- but what makes have you worked on?
I always ask the Mitsubishi guys about the problems .... and -- yes they don't use them as often. but -- no one seems to have problems?
The cassettes work like the concealed and the floor -- 3 speeds vs 4 for the wall heads. No eye as the better Mitsubishi heads.
I put them out in the dormers near the windows -- capes have a full dormer on the second floor. This way I used the 3 outlets -

For dealers like Tommy and Justin dealing with issues all day you try to limit your exposure. As the Fujitsu rep in 6 states, I did and yes the cassettes work well, but when compared to the other options...? My ***** with mini-splits is the cleaning difficulty and it is greater with cassettes. Perhaps they have improved somewhat in their design and that new mist unit looks like a good idea but it is still a cassette.

There is not much to them .... I can see how a leak in the coil would be an issue. But -- that's why you buy Mitsubishi.
Since they hang on threaded rods you have to make a box to hold them -- it's like installing a window in an old stone house with 2' walls. You build the box -- install the box and slip in the cassette.
Have not seen one of the new Mitsubishi units -- it's clearly been designed to eliminate the install difficulties and make it look less commercial.
My units sit in rectangle boxes - with 2" foam boxes sitting on top in the attic.

I have put a few in commercial applications, customers seem to like them. techs that work under me haven't complained any more then any other units.
Seems things are made to break that's why I heat with a wood stove.

All of them. For the last 25 years. They all **** to work on and all suffer the same maladies because they're almost identical in design. Low airflow, condensate collects on the vanes, IFM run caps are literally bolted into the control box from the back and you can't get at the nut without almost completely disassembling it. Cleaning the evaporator coil is all but impossible. Just wait until you work on one with a hot water heat coil...
Hate 'em.
